Guest guest
It's not unsual for measured kidney function to vary like that. That happened to me the entire year and a half before I finally had to start dialysis. In my opinion, whichever nephrologist is treating you should both be preparing you for dialysis or transplant, AND treating you in the meantime with the appropriate blood pressure pills, possibly a diuretic (if you need one) and diet. You really don't want to suddenly find yourself on emergency dialysis via a catheter if you can avoid it. This is one situation in which it pays to be prepared for in advance. Pierre back from a visit to the neph > Well, I've been to Doc #1 today (actually, he is a prof so I should give > him the honour deserved - although he never bothers to even pay > attention to my existence). > > Neph #1 (who just wants to prep me to dialysis, today told me my test > results are the same, no change, yet instead of 15-20 per cent of kidney > function, he suddenly said I have 25-30 ... ? > > Oh well, This is too confusing to keep up with. > > Neph #2 which I am moving to also doesn't see any possibility beyond > dialysis/transplant, which is obvious in my chronic situation, but he is > still optimistic and drugs me on ACE inhibitors and fish oil to try and > preserve the status quo for as long as possible. > > Weirdly enough the ACE inhibitors do their job, my protein qntt (24HR) > dropped from ~8+ grams to ~5+ grams.. which I am told means exactly > squat, but is still nice to know. > > I was told that ACE inhibitors (of the type I am using) are good for > about 12 hours, so I started (by the doctors prescription) to take them > twice a day. > > And damn those fish oil pills are huge!! :/ ~ > > That's all the update I have really.. Guest guest
Hi Gadi, It is good your protein levels dropped, but 5 grams in 24 hours is still pretty high. I am glad your Neph #2 is optimistic and trying to keep you stable as long as possible. Many of our members have been able to maintain at 25-30% for years. The ace inhibitors should help lower your protein levels. Thanks for your update!
