I guess I am coming from a different angle on this. I tried and failed at

BFing my first two boys but have succeded with my next two. When I had my

third boy (the first one to BF) my cousin also had a baby born the day before

mine and was BFing. She quit at 6 weeks and I started to really be militant

about it. I stopped myself. How would I have felt if women had made me feel

bad when I failed with my first two?

I totally believe that it is better to BF but I just can't bring myself to do

more than encourage. I don't see the point in downing someone over it.

I wanted to give my baby a bottle(Mikayla 3 months) becasue my last son I

nursed for 16 months and he would not take a bottle at all, and this time I

wanted to do some husband and wife time alone, and be able to leave the baby

with grandma. I think I tried giving her a bottle once or twice a few weeks

ago, and she would not ahve anything to do with it(my milk n the bottle) so

I just figured oh well, it actually worked out really well not giving my son

a bottle, I never had to wash a bottle, or worry about bottles, and he went

straight to a cup. so that is what we will do this time too, except nurse a

lot longer (at least if I ahve it my way we will, unless Mikayla has other

plans)

I also walk a fine line on some lists but I have learned how to handle it. Everyone on all my lists knows I'm very into bfing so it's no shocker when I dispute false info or give advice :-) I would stay on the list for awhile and see if you can be a positive influence. One of the moms on my March 2000 list had a very difficult time bfing at the beginning but really wanted to. I was the only person who was able to help her through it, most of the others would have been fine with her switching to formula or supplementing but I knew she didn't want to. I learned that the moms who had a previous bottle-fed baby who wanted to bottle-fed again could not be convinced otherwise but the new moms can be influenced if it's done nicely. I think my Feb-March 2000 babies lists are about 1/2 bfing and 1/2 bottle-feeding, most started out bfing, only two chose to bottle-fed from day one. If it's a mainstream list you have to expect to find moms who don't want to bf or who are misinformed. Maybe the best thing you can do is inform them over the next few months.

I joined another list of mom's due in December. I don't know if I can remain on the other list .. or if I can stay on and just bite my tongue. One mother wrote in saying she had had surgery on her breast as a teen and figured she wouldn't be able to breastfeed. She said that her MIL was very PRO breastfeeding and would give her a hard time about choosing not to. Another mother suggested that she simply lie to her mother and say that her milk never came in. Another said it was sad to see that a women couldn't make a decision to bottle-fed with being second guessed by all these breastfeeders.AHHHHHHHHH .. should I bite my tongue? I think we can encourage and inform without putting people down, especially

realizing that it's completely their choice to make. I do try not to let

people know if the information they are giving is false, gently, explain

what they can do to correct a problem or potential problem, but then leave

it at that unless what they are really looking for is someone to keep on

them about it.
