Guest guest
you know.. it said that it was carcinogenic in mice.. and you know how many things cause cancer in mice?? just about everything in high doses.. I don't think we should scare ourselves so much over everything being harmful.. thrush can be harmful and even fatal if a person has a lowered immune system.. Anyway.. gentian violet worked for us.. and I have used nystatin also.. which didn't work quite as well Take care Christi
Guest guest
Jen, I am really confused by this thread too. , why don't you start from the beginning and let us know what your son's symptoms were, what he was diagnosed with and what has been prescribed for him. Then we would be better able to answer your questions. Margaret JMowatt wrote: > I think I am really confused. Guest guest
<SIGH> I had a very long reply typed, my computer ate it. So in short, more thrush info can be found here http://www.breastfeeding.com/helpme/answer_thrush_yeast.html Gentian Violet: I would like to read the information that lists it as a carcinogen. IMO it would take *overuse* of GV to cause any damage. It is only recommended to be used every other day for a total of 3 times. Drinking nystatin: This is the first time in ~3 years of working w/ BF that I have heard of drinking it. How much was prescribed? Acidophilus: can be found in health food stores and larger food stores and drug stores with herbal/homeopathic remedies. Jenn NMC -----Original Message----- this thread *did* get very confusing. derek was diagnosed with thrush yesterday. they prescribed nystatin and told me that he should DRINK it 4x a day. my response was shouldn't i be brushing around his mouth, and they said " you can try, but it probably won't work. have him drink it. " i forget who told me the Gentian Violet was a carcinogen, thanks, i won't be using it unless all else fails.

Guest guest
Hi , Okay, so the why we were we talking about antibiotics? Anyway, I've never heard of Tylenol having a detrimental effect on Nystatin. Hope he's better soon!
