Guest guest
I have been reading your posts about using the Atkins diet and now that we are coming up to 2 years keto with varied results we are wondering how long Asha is going to stay on it. I would love to try the Atkins diet and am wondering how those who are using it decided what carb level to stay on? Did you stay with the level your child was having on the keto diet or did you go lower to compensate for the higher protein level? Ashais 19 years old , weighs about 40 kilos , has 34 gms carb a day at present and is on 1.8:1 ratio. I am slowly dropping the ratio down as her ketones keep climbing and she does better with lower ketones. Can you tell me did you just switch over from keto to atkins or did you use a method? And if you aren't weighing anymore how do you know you are keeping the carb count below a certain level? Thanks for any answers. Leita. Guest guest
We keep to 20 carbs per day as prescribed by the Atkins induction. I would think you'd want to stay there for a while and see if his seizure level is acceptable to you. If it is, you might consider raising it so that he'd be close to where he is now on keto. You'd be amazed at how much more food you can allow when there's no protein restriction. Also, you wouldn't need to supplement with so much fat. Best of luck...
