Guest guest Posted February 22, 2006 Report Share Posted February 22, 2006 Hi I was just wondering I was talkig to Topper today and well we were talking about my back situation I am sure most of you know I have severe Arthritis in my lumbar spine and I have 2 bulging discs in my cervical spine complicated by stenosis of my spine which means the spinal canal is narrowing. Well anyway Topper and I were dicussing my choices of medication the gave me and I have been very concerned for a couple weeks cause I looked them up and they are harsh medication one is Avara and the other is Methotrexate I was wonder what you all think of taking a medication that will suppress my imune system and asloalters the way my body uses the folic acid I will most likely be prescribed a folic acid vitamin to put back what I will lose, I have just been very concernered about the immune suppression and what this will mean. One of the side effects of this pills is possible loss of hair it is a cancer drug and is given in larger doses to cancer patients but I wil still lose most of my hair I was told. I will have to buy alot of scarves if I decide to take it or hats. These drugs are called DMARDs . They can be taken in liquid form or pill form to certain dosages from there it goes to injection once a week the pills and liquid are also once a week. Also you have to have your blood monitored very closely because of side effects to the liver and kidney it has also been know to cause tumors but they say that is rare.
