It was really kind of a funny morning. Great staff at the hospital. The

nurse had a hard time finding a vein for IV which is why the medi port. The

radiologist was great, all smiles, helpful and explanatory. I asked him why

radiology was there. To do the sonogram so they can see that they're

putting the catheter in correctly. Duh-oh!!!

Talked to the doc. He was really sweet and very cute but young enough to be

my, uhm, nephew, yea, that's it, nephew. We talked about pain meds, I told

him vicodin was mostly worthless. He told me he was a wimp about pain and

they did nothing for him, most meds did nothing for him. I asked him about

what to expect pain wise and he just kind of smiled and made some comment

about most pain meds not working for him again and I told him, " Yea, but

you're a wimp about pain, remember. " He laughed and rolled his eyes.

They wheeled me into OR and as usual it was freezing. I ask, " Okay, how

come ORs are always so damn cold. " The doc tells me, " They have to keep the

equipment cool. " So I tell him I understand, I used to be a systems manager

for a computer center. Then I said, " Where the hell are those hot flashes

when I need them. " The whole team cracked up laughing. They don't put you

under full anesthesia for this, they call what they give you a sleepy

consciousness. I could here everyone talking. I remember talking and the

nurse telling me, " Now don't talk, okay. " I can't remember a thing that was

said but I remember that people were talking and I was trying to join in the

conversation. Then, in what seemed like minutes after they wheeled me in

someone said, " we're almost done. " I do remember replying, " Are you

serious? " Laughter again. Hey, I'm a regular comedian, what can I say.

They gave me some water and some lunch in recovery. I drank a whole glass

right away, took two bites of the sandwich and upchucked it all. Glad it

was mostly water.

The whole staff was cheerful and kind.

Hubby took me over to a friends house, where our son spent the night, and I

crashed all afternoon. I slept on the drive over their too, it was about 10

minutes away. I thought, this doesn't feel so bad. HA!!! When I woke up

it hurt like hell. I can feel that damn cath in my neck. Tried to drink

some water and stood over the bowl again. And I had a whopper of a headache

so I took some excedrin, did the trick. Mike picked me up and we got 5

minutes out around the corner and had to pull over, twice. For now I'm

sucking on popsicles and it seems to be working better. And I took a

vicodin and it seems to be helping. I only hope I'm one of those people who

will eventually not notice this thing is in my neck vein. It's a yucky

feeling. I'll have it for about 6 or 7 months. :-/

Other than that I'm doing quite well.
