Guest guest Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Hi , I have Stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma but no chemo. The type of cancer determines your treatment. Estrogen positive or negative; markers; lymph nodes. So when you have the surgery; they will have a pathology report that the onc will go over with you. wrote: Hi Jackie,I thought DCIS was always Stage 1.To be Stage II or more you have to have IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma), which is a tumor that has spread outside the ducts. But even if DCIS is earlier stage, at times a mastectomy is needed depending on its location(s).I had both IDC and DCIS, but because the DCIS was right beneath my nipple, a mastectomy was recommended. But first I had a biopsy, so I ended up with 2 operations, but I was glad I did the biopsy first. One good thing about a mastectomy is it means no radiation.Calcifications in and of themselves are not necessarily all DCIS, so maybe the doctor wants to first do a biopsy to determine how extensive the DCIS is.bangtaildogrescue wrote on 1/3/2006, 7:37 PM:> Hi all,>> I have jsut been diagnosed with DCIS minimally invasive, stage II or> III.
