Guest guest
I am new to the board as well. I have also struggled with weight gain since having CFS/FMS. It is " normal " for libido to be decreased because of the decrease in seratonin levels in the brain. I don't have answers to your other questions, but I do look forward to reading the responses from others. Welcome to the group. :-) Meshell

Guest guest
> > . I have also struggled with weight gain since > > having CFS/FMS > I have struggled with my weight from the time I was a Junior in High School. I got pneumonia and since that was before the day of antibiotics, I almost died. I always was way to skinny but after that I gained weight to easily. The doctors told me that my metabolism changed during this illness. I would have preferred it to stay the same as it was. But I have lost 20 pounds and I don't know why or how. I am not trying and I have been checked for diabetes so why I don't know but from the way things have gone lately, I probably have some other illness that there isn't a cure for. :-)) Take care, Irene
Guest guest
Somewhere I have read that FM causes carbohydrate cravings. If you don't realize what is going on the weight packs on. Then - attempting to get the weight back off is very slow, but not impossible. If one of your symptoms is fluid retention in the body tissues - that doesn't help. You can't judge how you are doing by the way your clothes fit. I wish I could remember where I came across this information. Jo

I'm not on hrt, but am on bc pills. I don't think they have a thing to do with my problems. In fact, they help to slow the growth of my endo down!! I do have a serious lack of libido that isn't caused by a prescription medicine. It's slightly helped along by my antidepressant, but even when I wasn't on it, I didn't have the kind of libido that I use to have. Guest guest
Hi, , We're new to the group, too, but I can tell you if we have to opt for either RAI or surgery, it's definitely surgery for our daughter. Thankfully, we've found a doctor who supports us in our stand against RAI and he knows of a couple good surgeons who do great work with thyroid surgery. Hang in there. Guest guest
Hi , That's a very good point Laurel makes and one I hadn't even thought of when we talked. It really is quite odd to be allergic to both meds and rash doesn' count as a true allergic reaction without hives. Even with mild hives many patients are put on low dose antihistamines until their body gets use to the meds. Now if you had a low white blood cell count or elevated liver enzymes that's a different story.

Guest guest
Welcome , Can you elaborate on your " allergy " to ATD's? I was pushed to RAI because I got some mild itching and, as I understand it, itching is not an uncommon side effect. Did you have hives or difficulty breathing? Congrats on your decision. Laurel New to group Hi, I'm new to this group, I got diagnosed with graves this past summer after feeling badly for about a year before, I've tried the anti-thyroid drugs but was allergic, I'm now just on beta-blockers. My endo. is in the process of scheduling RAI, but after alot of thought and research, and talking to others who've had RAI, including my sister, I've decided on surgery instead. I know this is a big decision, but I think this is the best choice for me, I'm telling my endo. today about my change of mind, I just don't feel comfortable about the RAI and have a bad feeling about it. My family is supportive of my decision, especially my sister, who had RAI in the 1980's and has had a very bad time ever since. I'm hoping I'm making the right decision! :-} ------------------------------------- The Graves' list is intended for informational purposes only and is not intended to replace expert medical care. Guest guest
Hi : Welcome to the group. There are lots of people here with a lot of knowledge. I can only tell you from my personal experience that I think you have made a wise decision. I had RAI in 1997, and only now have been able to get my medication right. It has been a hard couple of years on me and my husband and children because of this. The most important thing is not to let your doc change your mind or make you feel like you're making a bad decision. This is your treatment and your body. There are others in this group who have had the surgery done and have been happy with their decision. Everyone is very open here in sharing their experiences, both good and bad. Good luck and keep us posted, Beverly New to group Hi, I'm new to this group, I got diagnosed with graves this past summer after feeling badly for about a year before, I've tried the anti-thyroid drugs but was allergic, I'm now just on beta-blockers.
