Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 You do have antibodies for both.. Grave's antibodies stimulate the thyroid to produce excessive hormones.. Hashimoto's antibodies cause inflammation and attack thyroid cells and destroy them..sometimes you get lucky and they keep each other in check..other times you are not so lucky..as you can teel by the way you are feeling. I have seen few options for this..one is called block and replace therapy.. they give you a full dose of ATD's( anti thyroid drugs) to suppress the production of hormones from the thyroid..once excessive hormone is used up they then instead of lowering the dose of ATD's start you on Synthroid..this is used almost everywhere except North America with high success rates.. The other options involve Surgery/RAI.. although it is usually considered the grave's antibodies take presadent over the Hashimoto's antibodies when it comes to treatment.. It is possible to have Grave's and not be hyper but when you add Synthroid into the mix the antibodies still stimulate the thyroid with out TSH being needed .. You really do need to find a thyroid specialist.. Kats3boys Quote

Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Thank you so much for your reply. I've been rather dissatisfied with my Endo - he's the one who said I just need to " let the disease run its course " as far as the Hashis, but he's the only " specialist " I have. He keeps in touch with me through email, so I just emailed him with my labs. So I'm royaly screwed, huh? If I get surgery and RAI, I know I'd go hypo, but will the antibodies go away? I guess I'm asking because I've been interested in self-treatment (I've seen so many hypo people who have docs who won't listen to them and they feel like crap)....I'm afraid of these antibodies doing damage even after I have surgery or RAI...I'm worried about my eyes. Do you have any knowledge as to what happens to the antibodies after surgery or RAI? Thanks again! *SIGH* --- kats3boys wrote: > You do have antibodies for both.. > Grave's antibodies stimulate the thyroid to produce > excessive > hormones.. You can self medicate the hypo, but I am not sure about self medicating the hyper..there is a few natural remedies such as lemonbalm etc. but those are taken along with ATD's.. The general thinking is the antibodies increase when your thyroid is stimulated..so 2 years on block and replace therapy will allow the antibody levels to decrease..give or take depending on your bodies response.. People do go into remmision form Grave's so it is possible to have the antibody levels lowered.. Kats3boys Quote
Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Hey ... Numbers, abbreviated: 2004 TSH < 0.004 TSH Free T4 Free T3 (.3 - 3.0) (.76 - 1.79) 1/31/06 0.484 1.10 You feel like crap. So we know something is off... Mid range on Free T4 would be 1.325, you're not much under that... but we don't know what the Free T3 is. Your Hashi antibodies are high, I belive that both of the ones that you show here are Hashi's, not Grave's... If I'm wrong, someone holler... Your temp and pulse are low... but is that from the blocker? I dont' understand why he'll give a blocker but not deal with the Hashi's..... I'm still thinking you're in a hyper hashi swing.. argggh I missed getting this one before you went to the doc... what happened when you saw him? That would have been the 14th, right? I hope he got his head out of his butt.... Don't worry about being so quiet, ... I had a bad day yesterday... it's lack of sleep issues here, the house schedule has changed and I'm getting even less sleep now. I may have to take a few hours in the morning, when the house is quiet, to make up some of what I'm missing. Living in a house with people with a hearing challenge that don't understand that they can sleep just fine with TVs blaring half the night so why can I? arrggghhhhhh Topper () ThyroPhoenix Donation Link:https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick & business=topper2%40juno%2ecom & item_name=ThyroPhoneix & no_shipping=0 & no_note=1 & tax=0 & currency_code=USD & bn=PP%2dDonationsBF & charset=UTF%2d8 On Mon, 13 Feb 2006 14:39:37 -0800 (PST) " J. My docs have told me"You just have to let the disease run its course" and"Your symptoms are not due to your thyroid." I see anew Holistic doc tomorrow and am hopeful he can helpme. Here are my most recent labs (from 1/31/06):TSH: 0.484 (just a week earlier on 1/19/06, it was0.259) (normal range is 0.350 - 5.50).FREE THYROXINE: 1.10 (normal range is 0.76 - 1.79). Doyou know what this is? I don't see any specific FREET3 or FREE T4 results.THRY PEROXID AB (Hashimotos antibodies): 418.0 (it was329.0 a few months ago) normal range is 0.0 - 2.0.ANTI THYROGLOB (Graves antibodies): 25.9 (this one isconfusing to me. a few months ago, it was < 2.0, andthe normal range on the lanbwork is 0.0 - 2.0. Thelabwork I have now says that anything < 0.20 is normal. Do you know which normal range is correct? Iwonder if the < 0.20 is a typo? Either way, my 25.9result is higher than each. Does this mean I haveGraves as well as Hashis? This scares me.)My basal temp has been averaging about 97.6 degreesand my waking pulse has been averaging about 65.Could you please give me any thoughts on my situation?Especially about the Hashis and Graves thing. If thisdoc I see tomorrow can't help me, I'm interested inself-treatment, but now I'm confused about my Gravesantibodies lab result.I'm so stressed out! Any help is greatly appreciated! M. Quote
Guest guest Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 The Antithyroglobulin Antibody is one of the antibodies for Hashimoto's Disease. I have both this one and the Antithyroidperoxidase Antibody, both in the thousands. My lab's standards says <40 for both of these. Different labs have different methods that I really don't understand, but I would say that the one that said <2 was the typo here, not the one that said <20. Strange. It's not that people with Grave's can't have this Antithyroglobulin Antibody, it's that if they do have that one, they're going to have the primary one(s) for Grave's Disease for sure, whether they have the one for the thyroglobulin or not. To determine whether you have Grave's Disease also, you will need to have the antibody testing called TSI (Thyroid Stimulating), and then there is another one or two others. You definitely have Hashimoto's, though. You need to find a doctor that knows what he's doing or else get your own tests run through HealthCheck like I do. I just had my blood counts of everything run a week ago. I posted them here, but it's strange that I don't think I've seen them yet, or maybe-----brain fog on my part and don't remember??? P.S. Thyroxine IS T4 (Thyroxine, 4 molecules of iodine attached to it; drop one off and you have T3. You did not have the Free T3, which is usually called " Triiodothyronine, Free " on most lab sheets. Youdefinitely have Hashimoto's, though. You need to find a doctor that knowswhat he's doing or else get your own tests run through HealthCheck like Ido. I just had my blood counts of everything run a week ago. I posted themhere, but it's strange that I don't think I've seen them yet, ormaybe-----brain fog on my part and don't remember???P.S. Thyroxine IS T4 (Thyroxine, 4 molecules of iodine attached to it; dropone off and you have T3. You did not have the Free T3, which is usuallycalled "Triiodothyronine, Free" on most lab sheets. Quote
Guest guest Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Know what, Topper? I just looked back over my sent messages, BUT I couldn't find that post, yet I found some answers to it from a couple of people, concerning the blood sugar part. SERIOUSLY, could someone please help me find my brain, I lost it, hehe?! Only the people on the thyroid boards could understand, lol. Re: Help with my Labs - Could I have Hashis AND Graves? I don't remember seeing them either, ... could you repost them?
