I suggest you review the information in the book and on the website as each item would requirs an explanation which appears there. Please don't seek out commercially prepared foods aside from those like the few legal juices and cheeses, oils and nut butters for example that are allowed. Atkins products are not manufactured to be SCd compliant. SCD is not a low carb diet. Carol F. SCD 4yrs, Celiac

Guest guest
Many 'Atkins' type products are very very illegal on SCD. Just because it is 'carb free' doesn't mean it won't have illegals. By saying there are no carbs, they are likely using sugars/starches that the body cannot digest (sucralose is a good example). This is actually one of the most dangerous things to consume on SCD because if we can't digest it, it goes in to the colon and it feeds every bacteria and yeast in there. Many people go on Atkins and find they get horrible stomach problems. I don't think Atkins was created with all this processed food in mind, but companies jumped on the bandwagon and have caused a lot of problems for many, in my opinion. I have yet to find one single Atkins commercial product that is allowed on SCD, though there may be one out there somewhere. A friend of mine on a low carb diet sends me links all the time to food she buys online thinking it will help me, but none of it has been legal so far. Home made ketchup is easy and yummy anyway - just boil down a can of tomato juice until it's thick, add red wine vinegar, salt (if desired), honey, garlic and onion. It's wonderful. I get prolly 24 ozs of ketchup from one can of tomato juice. It's a great tomato sauce base, too - I use it for pizza sauce, meat loaf, etc. Robbie " Carbohydrate free " tomato ketchup from Walden Farms Does anyone use this? This is my husband's Atkins-ordered ketchup, and I thought of using it instead of having to make my own ketchup. I'm calling the company to make sure it's GFCF, but if it is, I'm thinking that " carbohydrate free " and " sugar free " means it should be legal for SCD purposes, no? Here are the ingredients listed: Water Tomato paste Apple cider vinegar White distilled vinegar Cellulose gel Salt Maltodextrose Food starch modified Onion powder Garlic powder Egg yolk Xanthan gum Propolene glycol alginate Natural flavorings Red cabbage coloring Sodium benzoate (to preserve freshness) Sucralose Thanks! Guest guest
Angie, I have posted the illegal ingredients that I could find information about from the Breaking the Vicious Cycle website. Remember this is not just a sugar free, and gluten free diet (a lot more complicated than that). Also, it is not a low carb diet. Most sugar free products are going to have ingredients in it that are not allowed on SCD. My doctor put me on Sugar Busters and most of what I can have, my daughter on SCD cannot. Read about Splenda and such on the Breaking the Vicious Cycle website. SCD legal ketchup is really easy to make. tomato paste is illegal http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_t-z.htm I don't know about cellulose gel, but cellulose gum is illegal http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_a-c.htm malitol and maltodextrin are illegal, I would think maltodextrose is also illegal http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_d-n.htm oninon powder and garlic powder are illegal, unless you make it yourself xanthan gum is illegal http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_t-z.htm natural flavors are illegal http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_d-n.htm sucralose is illegal http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_o-s.htm I hope this helps, Trella mom to age 7, PDD-NOS, SCD 10/18/04 " Carbohydrate free " tomato ketchup from Walden Farms > > > > Does anyone use this?
