Guest guest
It would not make me uncomfortable. I would have thought the thin person had reached goal, had friends that worked out there, or didn't feel comfortable at a larger center. Suzie Kansas Last week while working out at Curves once again someone demanded of the girl working there to know what I was doing there. I'm curious. It won't change how I do things because I know why I work out and it goes beyond making others feel good about themselves, but I've asked myself this question as well. When you were, or if you are overweight, would you have resented seeing a thin person working out with you at Curves? Honestly? Would it have made you uncomfortable? Guest guest
Since I am a man I obviously don't go to Curves but my wife does. Let me play the devils advocate here and ask this. Doesn't Curves promote itself as a place to lose weight by doing their program?, don't they also have a food plan to help you in that regard?. It seems to me that Curves markets itself as a weight loss program whereas places like Great Body Company and other market themselves as " fitness " centers. I can possibly see someone questioning why thin people were there. Guest guest
No, it wouldn't have made me uncomfortable at all. I would praise her to myself and then vow to get there also--it would have made me irritated at myself that I had let myself go, but I also would have told myself that I'm working to get back to goal also. More power to her to have not HAD a weight problem OR if she did have one that I didn't know about, more power to her to have taken care of it. I go to Bally's where there are people of all shapes and weights, but with Curves maybe some people think it's a different emphasis. But, since they don't advertise themselves as a fat farm, then no one can complain in my eyes. The one who complained should be happy that there are people out there doing healthy things and should vow to look like that too. Interesting question and I'd like an honest answer Last week while working out at Curves once again someone demanded of the girl working there to know what I was doing there. Guest guest
Hmmmmm... What would be cool is that the person who was asked the question said " SHE'S a success story, maybe you should talk to her. " Or Curves should present you with a t-shirt that says " Curves Success Story " or something like that. I would think if you wore a shirt like that while working out, that should stop the ignorant questions. It's very rude of the person to have asked it and that it was loud enough for you to hear. Now, personally, if I didn't know that you really have worked hard to look what you look like now, I might be a little, hmmmmmm.... uneasy? Or that I might think you would prejudge me. I know that's wrong, but that is how I feel at times. I don't mean YOU, I mean someone who is fit, thin, etc. (at a fitness place). Like I might think that THAT person might think " I think you've waited far too long to be coming here NOW. " Even though the other person probably doesn't even remotely think that. Sometimes that's what the little voice in my head does though. I'm getting better though. It also depends on the person too. I mean, if the person smiled, was friendly, etc., then I probably wouldn't hear that " voice. " Oh I don't know!!! Maybe it just depends on my frame of mind too. If I am " on top of the world, " then nothing would push me off. If I have had a bad day at work, well... then maybe. > -----Original Message----- > From: Tory K > > Last week while working out at Curves once again someone demanded of the > girl working there to know what I was doing there. > > When you were, or if you are overweight, would you have resented seeing > a thin person working out with you at Curves? Guest guest
Let me respond Charlie... Do you believe that weight loss is a finite activity? Do you believe that people should " stop " their efforts once they have reached goal? Do you plan to do that? I don't. Why would I stop exercising? Do you think I should stop patronizing a place that has been supportive of my efforts simply because it makes someone else uncomfortable to see someone in good health? People who believe that weight loss issues are over once the scale reads a certain number are destined to fail. People who understand that weight loss is an ongoing lifetime issue, are destined to succeed. > Since I am a man I obviously don't go to Curves but my wife > does. Let me play the devils advocate here and ask this. > Doesn't Curves promote itself as a place to lose weight by > doing their program?, don't they also have a food plan to > help you in that regard?. Guest guest
I also work out at Curves. I would say 50% of the women are at least 50 lbs overweight, 10% at proper weight and the rest somewhere in between. The ones that are in good shape I have just assumed either lost weight in the past or are there because they want a quick, inexpensive place to work out. Either way, it is none of my business and I think it is rude to make a comment unless they were doing it in a complimentary manner to you. Guest guest
No I believe that most of us will continue to work at keeping the weight off and being healthy. My response was simply that perhaps this persons concerns were based on their perception of what Curves purpose was. Guest guest
Personally......lol......I would rather workout with a bunch of guys that are fit, than a bunch of skinny women. This is just me! I really enjoyed working out at the health club, the guys were always very nice and helpful. Especially if I had a question, they would show me on the machine what to do and set the weight for me. And honestly I did not think that these great looking guys were thinking " look at that fat lady or she's huge what is she doing here? " And I notice (not all) but a few ladies I have seen at the health club look at me like " what are you doing here? Or " lol.......look at her! " The guys seemed like they really wanted to offer help......and they were HOT!!! lol......and not snobby at all. Moe

Moe
