it sounds a little to me like your feeling like someone or thing is overstepping

a boundry with you and making you feel out of control (the house being your

sense of self). Since the staircase is blocked, I'd say you're feeling a sense

of frustration and feel that you can't enforce that boundry. Puppies that turn

to polar bears may mean that it's a person who should be not a " threat " to you,

someone you have warm feelings towards, but who maybe acts passive-aggressively,

or just who is acting inappropriately and you're not sure how to respond

correctly (to the right degree). As far as the hippos go, did you watch

Fantasia last night? LOL.
