Our school uses a very auditory approach to foreign language, my other daughter didn't even have a spanish book, it was all conversational in class. My HOH daughter wants to take Spanish but I'm thinking Latin might be better since it is taught from a book rather than auditorially. Is Latin an option for your daughter? We are trying to get ASL allowed as a foreign language in GA but as of today it is NOT. AARRGGHH. in GA , I'm wondering if she could take and pass a college ASL class. Could that fill her second langauge nitch for college applications? Or perhaps she could take and pass something like the NY State Regents which is aimed at high school kids. She'd have a second language, it just would not have been studied in school. She could include that information when applying to colleges on her resume. Or perhaps the guidance people could attach it to her transcripts when sending them out. I don't know it this is possible. But I've found that creative solutions are often the ones that work for us. Each semester is equivalent to a year of high school. Unfortunately, they haven't offered ASL3 for forever, so he may have to graduate with just 2 years-most colleges require 2, but like 3. In CA the junior colleges have some kind of agreement with the high schools, so there's no charge, other than the books. My son also took Chemistry there and will take History of Photography next semester. A plus is you get college credit too! Joan Starn PS My hearing daughter did the same thing. . .
