Guest guest Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Hi everyone, Just wanted to let you know that we made it home this afternoon. Sierra's cochlear implant surgery went well, they got the full insertion of the electrode array. Dr. Choo did discover a very small cholesteatoma, which came out very easily. Dr. Choo doesn't think that it will return or cause any problems, but we will keep an eye on it. Sierra will be activated in three weeks, which we can't wait. Right now the hard part is keeping her pressure dressing on, which she doesn't want. Her scope of her airway showed that she has bronchomalacia as well as tracheamalacia. Her adenoids have come back, which will have to be dealt with at a later date. Dr. Wood said they are large, but not infected which is good. Her airway around her vocal cords is alot smaller than it should be and will have to have surgery later on before she can be decannulated. We will hear back next week from Dr. Wood about the cultures he took, he thinks that Sierra may be aspirating her saliva. Not sure what will be done if she is. Just taking things one step at time. We are just thankful God was watching over our little girl yesterday. Sierra is doing very well since the surgery she was in the OR about 5 hours, she is only needing Tylenol now for pain. The gave her morphine when she was in the OR. Well I need to go. Take care and God Bless.
