A V node ablation

I am to have the av node ablation on Monday. I wonder if anyone can

tell me how soon I can be up and at 'um. I know it is out patient

surgery, but will I feel like doing anything?

I had a PVI July 2003, didn't work. Had a pacing pacemaker put in in

January 2004. In 8 months it used up 4 years of battery power. Dr.

Wheelan said he could do a touch-up ablation and see if he could get

more of the tissue that was causing the afib, but because I have

hypertensive heart disease and pulmonary hypertenion, he didn't think

it would be successful. Both bottom chamber of the heart are

thickening and getting tough, making the heart work harder to pump

the blood in and out. So it was decided that the av node ablation

would give me a better quality than I am having at present. He also

mentioned that a new pill was coming out that could replace the

warfrin and do away with all the the checking on the blood. Anyone

know what that pill is, I forgot to ask him. He said it was coming

next year.

Thanks for any info.

It is Exanta. Was submitted to FDA in December. Sounds good.

Hi, Nellie Sue,

Good luck on Monday, we will all be thinking good thoughts for you.

Please let us know how you are when you can.

If an av node ablation is like a pvi in terms of stress on the body,

I have seen quite different postings of after effects. Some people

are fine immediately, others (the majority, I think) take awhile to

recover. You should ask before the procedure what you are supposed

to do in terms of what activities are allowed afterwards. There

might be some time interval where you are supposed to take it easy.

Thanks Trudy and for your input. I really think that on

Wednesday I should be fine. Just can't go in the hot tub and such. I

am hoping anyway. If I make it home on Monday (with not

complications I should) I will drop a line to the list. Have a great

Sunday. Nellie Sue

I am out of the hospital and doing fine. Their don't care meds only

worked about 5 minutes. But it wasn't bad. Beating around 70 at the

moment, they left enough av in tact to beat 37bpm. Thanks to all

ya'ss that responded to me. Nellie sue
