Guest guest
I just bought some flax oil, hoping to get some omega 6 into 's diet. Pre-seizures I had given her a fish oil supplement (omega 3,6 and 9) that completely cleared up her mild eczema. But it has borage oil, a possible no-no, and our keto-team only allows certain supplements anyway. What I was wondering is: I believe it was Patti who mentioned the kind with a high lignan content is unadvisable, since the lignans may or may not be digested as a carb. Our dietitian is checking this out, but would prefer that I buy the flaxseed and grind it myself. Does anyone do this? Or have any other info on the lignans. I'm not even sure I can get the kind without them. Thanks, Barbara kathy j irwin wrote: > We've used flax for several years. Help bring 's cholesterol down to > normal range. No, can't cook with it. Guest guest
I use flax seed, but the one I use is cracked gold flax seed, so it doesn't need to be ground. The one I buy is made by Biona, but I'm in the UK so don't know whether it's available to you locally. It's low in carb (less than 2g per 100g - many others are higher, so check the label carefully) and high in fibre, so I have been using it to help with constipation. I've only recently discovered the other benefits. I use it in muffins for breakfast - between 5-7g depending on the other ingredients. I also sprinkle it onto cranberries or raspberries and cream. I've recently added flax oil too, which I just mix in with it. Or I mix it in with salad dressings - just mayonnaise and olive oil or creme fraiche. I am still using a fish oil supplement too, and am just wondering whether you can over-do the omega 3, 6 and 9's??? I guess not on a high fat diet - does anyone know??? Hope this helps. , Mum to Francesca, Keto Kid since Sept 03 and down to 200mg Epilim (depakote) daily > I just bought some flax oil, hoping to get some omega 6 into 's > diet.
