Susie, I'm with ya! I've suffered from depression for years, also. Have you considered medication? For me, it has taken the "edge" off and allowed me to function relatively normally. Amy

Susie -

You can't do this alone - have you thought about getting some help? Depression

is a horrible black hole - that is impossible to climb out of without alot of

help.

We're with you - but please, consider getting someone to talk to. You are

worth every effort!

I can really relate to this sit on the couch and eat thing. It's really hard

to be motivated once one gets to a certain size. Uggh .. I dont want to

depress u more, all one can do is try and try again like me. Good luck and

reading this newsgroup does help, especially the challenges.

Susie, I am glad you have decided to TAKE CONTROL. It is the first, and the

biggest step. Your depression may or may not need outside help...I only

know that when I sink into depression there comes a point when I, like you,

have this sort of epiphany that I have to stop feeling sorry for myself, get

off my butt, and DO SOMETHING. Just the act of putting on my running shoes

and making myself take that morning walk gets me going. That is the first

step of my day. Baby steps, Susie. From there you might even come home and

plan the evening meal. The sense of accomplishment you will feel cooking

and doing things for your family will really help....because I will bet that

when you are on the couch, watching TV and ordering out or however you take

care of meals, there is a smidgen of guilt that only adds to feeling

depressed!

I do not mean to criticize ANYBODY, and especially those who need help with

their depression....mine is hormone related and comes and goes. Susie, if

you find that little steps don't help you out of this, don't hesitate to

seek some help. There are several ladies on this list in therapy, or taking

Paxil and the like, and are relieved to be finding a way to lead a happier,

more fulfilled life.

And stay away from that sugar! Those sugar highs are a bunch of crock.

(And please notice, the FIRST thing I suggested was that morning walk!)

thanks Terri. I have thought about counseling, but we live in a very small

community (<20,000) and are pretty visible. The last thing I need is for

someone to see me walk into the mental health center or behavioral unit.

For right now DH and I are going to monitor my emotional side. I can fall

back on my doctor who is a good friend and confidante. He will always

listen to me and will prescribe some medication if needed.

I feel as though I have taken the first step to recovery. I tried a few

months ago, but immediately fell off the wagon and gained another 15 lbs.

This time I have to be totally committed. My doctor did tell me that I

need my head and my heart in sync to be successful.

Thanks for your concern and I will keep you posted.

HI Susie,

I just read your post and am so glad you have shared with us. I suffer from depression myself. And this way of eating has helped improve my mood sooooooooo much. I can tell the difference the minute I go off it. And my depression is similar to yours, although I don't have a hubby to not be intimate with, LOL. But I don't get dressed or go out when I am really in the middle of it, although I always go to work and do fairly well in that arena. I am testament that this can work for you. I started at 210 and now weight 177.5. And you can do this too, I just know you can. Are you on individual mail? Doing that really helped me use this list as a support system. And just get going with one meal at a time low carbing, and the rest will follow.

love to you,

a
