Guest guest
Hi everyone! I have not written a post in a long time, but I do read all of yours. Everyone one of you are in my prayers. I have a question....my son is on the keto diet and as of April 1st he is medication free. The only type of seizures he is having are grand mal's and they usually happen at night. He used to have all kinds of seizures: drops, grand mals, absent and a list of others. The past few days he has had a grand mal every night and today he has had a drop and is very jerky today. I was wondering if this is a drug wean or something else. How long does the medication usually last in the body. He was on Depakote sprinkles and on 1 pill. He is also on a 4:1 on the diet too. I would really like some feed back and let me know that this is a normal weaning thing. Thank you. , mom to 4 1/2 - keto kid 1 yr.
Guest guest
Hi , Can only speak from my experience with my son obviously, he had been on drugs since he was 9 months old and was eventually drug free about 7 months after being on the diet. Even though at the end he was on such a small dose that it was 'not effective' - his seizures did get worse when I stopped them altogether. I think the body gets so used to having these different 'toxins' roaming around all the time that it takes time for body to adjust to not having them. The longer time on the drugs, the longer time for the body to get used to be free of them. I increased my use of garlic in s meals as it is a natural 'cleanser' and also used 'rescue remedy' as well as massage with to help his body relax and come to terms with the changes going on within it. Natural oils in the bath can be helpful as well to calm and cleanse the system. His seizure activity did go up for quite a while (still no where near as bad pre-diet)and now it has reduced right down again. Good Luck and you are in my prayers also. Emma. > Hi everyone!
