Any other issues I should be sure to address? I have a very willing staff (except for one) who will help me. I'm not sure if that is a state requirement or if it is simply our school's policy. But there have always been extra hands in the kindergarten rooms. Yes, you can request an aide and any kind of sound reduction strategies you can think of. You can request anything you think is needed. I did not need to address Ian's needs at this age, and I'm sure there are other parents on this list with some great ideas. Guest guest
, I think given that the CI is going to still be pretty new, even though he will have all summer it can take quite a while to develop language. If he already has some pretty good language I would assume that he would catch on fairly quickly, but I would deffinately request an aid due to the high teacher student ratio. At least for the first year, because he will still be " learning how to hear " . If he knows some sign I would request an aid that knows some sign. This way if he is having a hard time understanding like if he is not getting a spacific word she can sign it so he knows what that is, or if she doesn't understand something he is saying she can sign. The thing is if he has little or no speach you can't expect him to pick up fluent speech in a few months over the summer, so I'm assumeing he has some speech now. I think your provisions are great with the FM and tennis balls, I would deffinately ask for an aid though with a class so large. Point out that there are still issues he is going to have learning how to hear with his CI and the noise level will still be up there since there are so many kids and that due to such a large class chances are he will have a really tough time in there and you would like an assistant in there for him.
