Guest guest
Hi. I just wanted to update everyone on how was doing and, as usual, ask for some advice along the way. We met with the school district yesterday and they approved individual speech therapy 3 times a week in addition to her nursery school program. In addition, they agreed to home use of her FM system. We had a representative from e school for the deaf on the phone reviewing her evaluation results and justifying all our requests so things went very smoothly - I was really amazed and thankful. Her articulation has picked up since we increased her aids a month back - she's now saying all those sounds we strugled with for so long - I'm really happy with her progress, but I'm still waiting for our new audi to ensure her aids are set correctly. I have to admit, I'm not really comfortable with our choice of audiologists- maybe I will be after I finally see the audi in action, but I'm worried because he is not a pediatric audiologist and it takes 6 weeks to get an appt. He does come recommended by our ENT, so I am hoping he is good, but still I'm apprehensive. I would really like to take down to New York City and have her managed by the audis at the e school, but our insurance won't pay for it since they are out of network. We're going to appeal to our insurance company about paying for an out-of-network audiologist because they don't have a pediatric audiologist in plan. Can anyone offer any advice on how to justify the need for a pediatric audiologist? It seems so simple - she's a little kid, she should be seen by someone who specializes in little kids, but it doesn't work that way in the eyes of our insurance company. I'm hoping that the fact our previous audiologist had underaided will help our case, but any other info that's out there would definitely be appreciated. Thanks! Cheryl (mom to -4 as of yesterday,HI and 22 months.)
Guest guest
Cheryl, provide the insurance company with information that will make dollar and cents to them. The sessions take longer as they are unfamiliar with dealing with children, The sessions had to be rescheduled as all the information could not be collected. is there a lack of pedictric instrumentation you can mention? lack of equiptment they have on hand that they'll need to get that a ped audi would have already? They won;t react because it's hard on your child but if you give them examples as to what it will cost them.....perhaps they will reconsider. Good luck, BEtsy " Can anyone offer any advice on how to >justify the need for a pediatric audiologist?
