as long as you keep taking your medications and are followed on a regular

basis (which could be as little as every 6 months if everything else is going

well), there should be no problems with you achieving a full career as a

Paramedic...

There are a lot of docs and nurses as well as other medics who have to take

Synthroid or other medications on a regular basis.

Ms. ,

Welcome back. I bet you had your email preferences set not to receive emails

from the list. You can go into your yahoo profile and change that if you

want.

Now as far as your other question. You need to sit down with your doctors

and ask if they believe you can handle working as a full-time field

paramedic.

In my humble opinion I don't see any medical reason why you could not become

a full time field paramedic but that is a decision that you must make along

with good information from your physicians.

Subject: any hope?

Hi,

Somehow, I got into this group, but hadn't heard from it in forever.

Today my box

has over 30 messages from the group, so it seems a good opportunity to

ask a

question.

I got my EMT-B several years back and worked full time for two years. I

loved it.

Life happened, I moved, I was out of it for two years, then went back

to school and

knocked out A & P 1 & 2 along with other classes. I was about to enroll in

paramedic

school when I got thyroid cancer. I endured a total thyroidectomy and

radioactive

treatments, was given the all-clear, and told to resume my life. I will

have to monitor

this for the rest of my life; my question is, now that I'm a

medication-dependent

person (Synthroid) can I be a paramedic? It's all I've ever wanted to

do.

Thanks,

Renae

Renae;

The med your on shouldn't stop you from practicing as a paramedic, I'm

diabetic and on an insulin pump and it has yet to stop me from doing what I too

love doing.. Don't let this stop you..
