How does that work? The audi said that they are required to provide certain things, but that many times they just don't have the money so they bring out a 20 yr old box of aids and FM's....etc. That makes me SO mad. It's very frustrating. _______________________ Sara, We've never gotten aides from our district and I've never attempted to fight for that. We see his aides as personal property and we insure them with a rider on our homeowner's insurance. Ian needed them immediately and it would have been a long drawn-out fight to get the school to do anything. So, we've simply handled that ourselves. Our insurance company paid only $500 towards each aide, and that was after we appealed it. I've only heard about a few people who've been able to get their local school to pay for the aides. And a few times I've heard about the parents having to argue with the district to allow the aides to come home with the child. The district apparently considered them to be their property and that the aides should stay at school. The whole thing did not seem to me to be a worthwhile fight. Was it an easy bill to pay? No, we took out a loan in order to swing it. But we had the resources to get him the aides. Some families don't. If we couldn't have manged it, I'd have been calling the Lion's Club and fighting for the district to use their " Plan B " money to pay for those aides. However, the district has purchased the FMs system and pays for the TOD and any other services he's needed. We could have also pushed for audiology care/evals, except I hate (HATE) the idea of this district having any control over or unsupervised access to our son's medical care. We use all our own doctors and specialists because of our history with this district being less than honest. Best -- Jill
