Michele,

I am glad I was able to get online tonight to catch this post. My

internet has been giving me fits for days, making it hard to get my

work done let alone come on to check the list.

The gal who went with me to CA has put into place the exercises we

learned there and is thrilled with the results - able to focus in her

cubicle of an office when other people are talking, decrease in pain,

and increase in energy (fibromyalgia)....

We are having a community information night and an intro course here in June.

On the neuropsych - picture the blue chart referred to in the HANDLE

training - then when the neuropsychologist gives her report, you will

likely find that many of those things are on the top of the chart. If

so, then follow the lines back down, and it will give you a clue as to

what underlying neurodevelopmental issues to look at. (Since she

works with kids like ours, you may find she does a good job of

identifying the underlying concerns as well, which would be great.)

Yes, I am really hopeful that this woman's eval gets to the roots and her

program suggestions also strengthen those areas. As I was expecting, the

HANDLE class gave me wonderful preparation to understand and assess that

eval.

It sure is hard to get out and go to things when you're in the midst of

young kids in the household. You will get to it when it works for you.

Just get yourself in the " network " to know what's going on around the state

so that you will know when the important information comes your direction.

I thought long and hard before signing up for this. It comes in the middle

of very busy times with work. Feel like I'm coming and going constantly!

Tomorrow, I leave again for 3 days! But-- I think I get to stay put at home

for 2 weeks after that. Time for a bit of relaxation!

You should call Jody. She's great -- no courage required to talk to her!

Rita-

They haven't scheduled it yet, but there was a waiting list for the class I

took so they are working on a 2nd offering. It would be in Lombard. The

local contact who is organizing this is Phyllis Rubin. Her email is

phyllis.rubin@.... I think you could email her if you want to be

informed of the 2nd session.

The course is " Get a HANDLE on Neurodevelopmental Differences: Introduction

to a systems approach for identifying the root causes of many dysfuntions

and providing Gentle Enhancements across the lifespan. " Course Objectives:

1. Understand how neurodevelopmental functions interact either to

facilitate or to impair learning and interpersonal behaviors.

2. learn how to identify neurodevelopmental systems that require

therapeutic intervention

3. Understand how social and academic behaviors and developmental histories

provide information about neurodevelopmental dysfunctions

4. recognize factors involved in processing sensory input in order for a

response to occur

5. begin to view neurodevelopment from a model of interactive and

interdependent functioning, which model enables a nonjudgmental approach to

individual differences

6. be able to recognize subtle signs of stress, in order to individualize

task challenges appropriately

7. become familiar with some HANDLE activities that may be used with groups

or one-on-one to enhance neurodevelopment at any age

We learned about every cranial nerve and how the brain processes input from

every area. It was informative and fascinating. I haven't had time to

review my notes and consider what I might use to benefit Aubrie.
