Hi,

I was wondering why pecan flour would be better for ASD kids than almond

flour? What about walnut, hazelnut flours, etc.? What are the

advantages and disadvantages of the different types?

Thanks!

Jody,

What's your source for pecan flour? Do you buy the nuts and grind

your own or purchase it already ground? Any rules?

I know that the almonds need to be blanched - almond flour I got

from Trader Joe's at the beginning (thinking it was a good deal) had

the peel in there and was way too fibrous for my kid. But I'm

concerned about the same thing with pecans. Help...

Thanks!

Hi ,

Pecan flour is better for some of the kids who don't tolerate

almonds because of phenols. Those who are sensitive to the skins on

nuts will find blanched almonds the easiest to digest.

Nuts in order of easiest to digest/less complex go in order of

1. pecans or almonds

2. walnuts, hazelnuts, macademia etc.

3. cashews (have more complex carbs than the rest)

The form that is tolerated first by many (on this list) are

1. nut butters

2. nut flour

3. nut pieces

4. whole nuts blanched (as applicable)

5. whole nuts with skins (unblanched)

This is specific to the person. Some kids have sensitivities,

allergies, phenol reactions etc. are able to tolerate more complex

forms sooner (like nut pieces) etc.
