Guest guest
Are you feeding him any of these foods? Or is he eating nothing at all? Could you just take one food away at a time, maybe spacing them a week apart and trying to introduce some new yummy SCD things? Then he'd still be getting the 3 favorites instead of 4 but getting used to something SCD too. Would he be willing to try a new SCD food in order to get one of his favorites? Could you maybe give him the cream cheese but add in the ever so smallest amount of something SCD like nut milk or nut yogurt and then slowly over time change the ratio to more SCD and less cream cheese until the cream cheese is gone? If you don't want him to have any of these old foods back but he is drinking juice, could you turn the juice into popsicles or a icee or smoothie to start with a little more substance? Then add to it in a few days more mashed/pureed foods in small amounts? Guest guest
Hi Pomfred, > My 4 1/2 year old son is on a hunger strike that has lasted 9 days > and counting. No one seems to be able to understand just how picky > he is--until now i suppose. > We wanted to wean him onto the SCD but had only 4 solid foods to wook > with: > Bagels w/cream cheese > Potato chips > Mcs french fries > Peanut butter crackers > > As it was he ate very little since age 1 1/2. He seems to be afraid > of food. I understand this type of fear. I went though the same thing. Everytime I ate, it caused awful stomach cramps. If this is happening it is essential that he be kept hydrated with either an electrolyte drink, homemade gelatin or diluted juice (water alone is not enough if he isn't eating anything. Here's an SCD legal one copied from our recipe section http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html : " ELECTROLYTE DRINK from the LI Listserve 1 quart boiled water 2 tbsp. honey 1/4 tsp. of salt 1/4 tsp.baking soda Can be kept in refrigerator for 24 hours. After that, a new batch should be made. " or with legal diluted juices: 1/2 glass legal grape juice & 1/2 glass water combined 1/2 glass legal apple cider & 1/2 glass water combined Popsicles made from these diluted juice will help also. > His tests showed " high " food sensitivity to gluten, casein, yogurt, milk, > rye, oat, wheat, safflower, malt, cottage cheese,grapefruit..... > He had a cold went through what appeared to be withdrawal by his lack > of energy and pale face--now he is drinking and well hydrated (thank > god) but will not eat a thing not one crumb. > Please help in any way possible i'm afraid he will end up on a > feeding tube or even worse. If his fear of eating came from pain when he ate, starting him on very basic SCD foods may help get his strength and his hunger back. Continuing with pureed carrots or squash (after the fluids mentioned above) made to a texture he'll eat. If this is accepted you could try making some of the pureed chicken soup or the chicken pancakes which are usually a very big hit. http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html under the " Pancake section " If his fear is of staring SCD foods you may need to gradually replace his illegals with SCD substitiutes. Dripped nut yogurt in place of cream cheese, eventually SCD baked goods in place of bagels etc. Sheila
