Sharon,

My husband died in February after about a year of illness. Colon

cancer was dxd in June, 2003. He had liver involvement as well, but

much more extensive than your mom's. He too decided against

treatment after surgery to remove the primary tumor. I think I'd

have made a different decision for myself, but I knew that I needed

to support him in whatever he decided. We brought in Hospice in

September and I know I couldn't have done it without those wonderful

people who dedicate their lives to making the last months comfortable

for people who are dying. I don't know enough about your mom's

situation to have any thoughts about her decision to opt out of the

liver resection, but it sounds like the surgeon is supporting her.

I wish you and your mom peace with her decision. If you want to know

more about hospice, there's lots of info on the web. Just

put " Hospice " into the search engine.

Maeve,

My heart hurts for you. Certainly, hospice is to be considered. I

hope that won't be necessary for some time. I will continue to hope

and pray for some quality time.

Take care.
