Guest guest
Hi Robbie, > has been symptom free for several weeks now (he is on SCD for UC). He spent the weekend with my sister, who read Elaine's book and spent a ton of time and money making sure all the food she prepared for him was SCD legal. It was so touching. > > But - he consumed a HUGE amount of fruit while he was there. He ate more food in one day today than he would normally eat in two. 5 ripe bananas, a ton of cantaloupe, 2 or 3 apples, 2 applegate farms hotdogs (he eats these on a regular basis), an omelet with cheese and sugar free bacon, cheese cubes, a ton of grapes, almond flour cookies, home made sausage (and still asked for more food)... sheesh. Well, he was on the potty prolly 8-10 x today she said and once after we got home. He went from solid stools slowly going to a little mushy and a tinge of blood in the last stool tonight. > > Anything on this list seem like it's likely something he's not ready for or just maybe the entire fruit overload? cantaloupe and apples are the newbies for him - I've avoided the apples until now because of the inflammation and cantellope just cause it's not in season. I hope this isn't the start of a regression, but just a minor setback. It may have been: 1.) the cantalope or apples (especially if the apples were unpeeled and raw) 2.) the change in drinking water 3.) just travelling Also, does he normally eat grapes? > Oh he also had 2 tangerines yesterday morning, but didn't seem to have a reaction to them - but maybe a delayed reaction? So much for introducing foods slowly. eesh , my celiac 21 mo old, had some tangerine and had a pretty loose, volumous stool within a couple of hours afterwards. Not funky, just loose. > > I just want the poor kid to eat more variety - and I thought being symptom free for this long was enough time, but I guess not. > has been through a lot and it's great that he was doing so well. It is probably a good idea to go a little slower with adding new foods especially with the raw fruits and veggies and the peels just because it has only been relatively recently that he has been doing well. Maybe sticking close to fruits and veggies that are still cooked like making baked apples or even baked nut products (if he is tolerating nut goods). Guest guest
Thanks, Sheila. Yes, he eats grapes a lot. The apples were peeled, but raw. The water was not filtered tho - I use filtered water but my sister does not. I hadn't thought of that. He's definitely better today... but he's been asking for apples and I'm afraid to give them to him. He's been doing fine on the baked almond flour foods and think from now on I'll do one food at a time and give a couple of days to see how he does before I decide if ok to do more. Poor kid - yes he's been through a lot. I'm just glad he's better today. Never in the history of his UC has he ever had a little regression and then snapped back... always a regression has meant a downward spiral. That's why I made my panic post. Thank you, Sheila, for always responding to me! Robbie Re: Fruit overload?? Hi Robbie, > has been symptom free for several weeks now (he is on SCD for UC).
