Tina,

He will be OK. he may have some symptoms for a little while or maybe none, but

this is not a major crisis. Just stay SCD and as you said be cautious about

others feeding him. You have done so well, please don't be upset. Nobody can

insure that things can be perfect.

We had the exact thing happen - it was Thanksgiving and I had crackers and

cheese out for snacks. The crackers were out of reach so I wasn't concerned.

The oldest niece came in for some crackers, and I told her 'make sure

doesn't get any' but the younger niece gave a cracker. I was so

upset.. I also thought they knew they needed to not give my kids any food as

well. I could have kicked myself for not saying anything to all of them. They

also didn't tell me in time to give him any enzymes.

BUT there is good news...

Oddly enough, he reacted very little - in fact, I prolly wouldn't have known he

had gotten a hold of something illegal if they had not told me. I see a worse

reaction from pineapple or apples than I did from that one cracker. Before SCD

he would have had funky, yucky stools and gas for 2 days.

Hopefully, for you, having been SCD for 9 months will have helped him heal

enough to not have a bad reaction.

Bread Infraction! Reminder to remind!

Today, I had an awful incident. Innocently, a lady from my church

had taken my youngest son upstairs while I was downstairs cleaning up

after children's church. I came up and asked where he was, and she

said that they had taken him up to the fellowship hall where they

were having the dinner. I said, " No one is feeding him anything are

they? " She said, " NO, just a little bit of carrots, and broccoli,

and some BREAD! " I just about died inside. I said, " Oh, no, not

bread! " and ran up the steps.

Too late, he had eaten several bites. My heart sank as I saw him

with a white crumb on his chin. The man was just about to pinch off

another bite for him as I ran and practically jerked him out of his

arms. (I hope I was fairly nice. Don't know at that point!) I

literally broke down crying on the way home. My husband thought I

had just lost it a little bit, but it was pretty traumatic for me. I

know it was an innocent mistake, yet I really thought they knew that

we didn't eat anything like everyone else, and I just assumed because

I am so used to everyone knowing that I must have forgotten to remind

her when I left the nursery.

So, word of reminder to everyone! Don't become slack in telling

people what to do when it comes to feeding or not feeding your

child. Always give a reminder, no matter how often they keep them or

how often they are around the person. You just never know.

My question is, he has been on SCD for almost 9 months. Will he most

likely be okay from the infraction or what? I do believe the Lord

will take care of it and have peace about it now, but was just

curious if anyone knows if infractions are less severe on the

children because of the diet. My concern is that he has celiac, but

don't know for sure. That's why I was so upset.

Blessings and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I have missed

you all...

Happy New Year,

Tina

Hi Tina,

Please try not to worry to much about it. These things do happen

unfortunately and since you've been on SCD for so long he'll likely

not have too bad of a reaction. If he does have some reaction you

can just keep his foods relatively simple for a day or two until

things clear out.
