Guest guest
>> school) I realized that it really wouldn't matter how well Ben could hear 30 years from now if we don't give him the best hearing possible NOW while he >is going through school. If he isn't successful NOW how will it be possible to be successful in 30 years. Ben's audie gave me copies of several articles on >children and bilateral implants. I will list them below. She is for it. His AVT it for it - she said he will be able to hear so much better in noise with two. Very well said, and soooo true. Of course we thought about saving one of our son's ears for future technology, hair cell generation etc. but then it occurred to us he would need the best hearing possible while he was young and making his way into the hearing world. He has had two implants for almost 3 years now and let me just say, hearing in noise is not an issue for him at all. We have never even thought about comparing different cars in terms of the noise they make because those things don't matter for Christian at all. I cannot say that two implants have helped him in acquiring language. I know a lot of children with one implant that are doing so well with their speech and language but I have yet to meet an implanted child that is doing nearly as well in background noise and for that very reason I would make the same decision again in a heartbeat. All the best, Sabine in Cologne, Germany with (12/98), Christian (4/00; meningitis 10/00; 2 N24 1/01), Florian (6/02) and ? to make the family complete in August 2004 :-)

Guest guest
From what I understand the implant destroys the hair cells. Am I right? So that's why they would not be a candidate. I cannot even imagine what will be available decades from now when our children are adults!
