I looked at a ton of the breasts and didn't find any without illegals. :( But

I did find a Butterball fresh whole turkey (NOT FROZEN) that had no illegals -

but it's the fresh only, not frozen. The other major brand has a fresh turkey

also but it had illegals - I can't remember the name... but anyway only the

Butterball fresh one was legal. I'm just so excited to have found one! I'm

hosting this year - so I can ensure gets no illegals. He's doing so well I

just can't risk it!

Legal Turkey Brand?

Do the turkey breasts in the store have illegals on them like some

of the whole chickens do? What are some legal brands? Ones without

gluten, sugar or starch? I won't be able to get a free range one,

which I regret, but waited too late and don't have a health food

within 90 miles. I usually order stuff through a co-op but forgot

about turkey.

Thanks,

Tina

I thought Butterball turkeys were injected with illegals?

Injected with illegals? What do you mean? The frozen ones all had illegals,

but this particular 'fresh young' turkey by butterball didn't. It said on the

label 'minimally processed, not basted' and fresh, not frozen, in a retained 5%

solution of water.

Anything that says it's minimally processed should be safe. That's

with any kind of poultry.

I also have a fresh Wampler foods turkey that is not injected or

basted...etc. Most FROZEN turkeys will be injected with some kind of

broth or solution.

It will be printed on the packaging if it is injected with something.

It's not easy to find though, so you have to really look.

So you're in luck! You wouldn't want a frozen turkey now anyhow. But

look at the fresh one's closely too! They sometimes have added broth

solutions to them. I was going to by some turkey cutlets to make Sam a

quickie Thanksgiving dinner to send to school, but all of them had a

solution on them.....:( Usually a store with a butcher in house will

have more meats without additives. Places like those big Walmart

stores generally only carry meats (poultry especially!) that have

solutions because they aren't cut and packaged in house. They come

from miles and miles away and need something to protect the freshness

and flavor on them......yuck! A bit of Feingold wisdom!
