Hello, I have had about 4 episodes of Afib in the past three years.I

have been afib free for over a year but am almost always aware of my

heart because of fluttering. I have taken 160x2 dose of soltalol and

aspirin during this time. I am not looking forward to taking this the

rest of my life(makes me tired) with probably a switch to coumidin at

65. I was offered an ablation last year in London ON with Dr. Skanes.

I am seeing him again and still trying to decide what to do.I would

like to hear from both people who have had ablations especially in

Canada and those who have been on long term drug treatment.I thought

I might wait a few years but am afraid I may not be a candidate at

that time if I develop other health problems . Right now I am in

pretty good shape although overweight. I skiied 8 hours this past

week and go to the gym a couple of times a week.Hoping to hear from

you

I think Codling on this list is in England. However, he hopped

across the channel to see the reportedly best doc in the world for

afib ablations, Dr. (I know I'm not spelling this right) Haussgierre

in France. An acquaintance of mine had an ablation done a few months

ago by Dr.Jais, who speaks English and works with Dr. H.

However, there is a danger to ablations and also to the stronger meds.

I was on Flecinaide for years before I had my first ablation in

2002. It was partially successful and I had a second ablation in Dec

2003. It appears to be working. The surgery is not without some

risk. Make sure if you talk to a cardiac electrophysiologist about

this procedre that yout talk about the risk factors and what they do

to mitigate them.

I would recommend going to a place where they do a lot of ablations -

not sure the best places in Canada to go; I did mine at University

of Pennsylvannia.
