Guest guest
Hi, I am fairly new to SCD, 10 weeks today! I did not start with the intro, mainly because my son did not have obvious bowel problems and I knew I could get it to fly with everyone if I started him with the yummy stuff right away. Well we are seeing healing! We had typical die off the first week and at the 7.5 week (wierd) and now we are seeing happy, calm boy with lots of neat new things happening. My son is not a classic ASD, many who have seen him or work with him don't put him there but he is real close to if not PDD-NOS with his biggest issue being apraxia of speech. I can honestly say that this diet is a huge breakthrough for us and he didn't have the obvious ASD stuggle going on. Healing is the key phrase, I just think eating this way is a foundation for any person who needs healing regardless of the disorder. Just my experience, hope you feel the same way in a few weeks time! Blessings, (mom to 3 teens and 5.5)

On page 69 last paragraph of BTVC Elaine discusses adding foods. For some The Stages chart on Pecanbread are a blessing and for others another difficult protocol to master. The Stages are not part of the diet. They were drafted for Pecanbread as a guide for those who couldn't select their own additions. They are useful but not required so don't worry if that's not how you want to proceed. Carol F. Celiac, SCD 4yrs.
Guest guest
Hi , >My question: I know I should be following the stages, but I am not seeing reaction from any of the foods, one way or another. The only thing is he's not pooping. That's a reaction. > I thought the later stage foods would help him poop more quickly. The book mentions you don't need to follow stages, and I think if he had diarrhea it would be more clear on when to proceed with different foods and when you need to wait. Right now his foods: banana pancakes with cooked pears/blueberries on top, chicken tots (with green beans), almond nut bread with chicken/avocado spread or spinach/meat spread. The later stages would not necessarily help him poop more frequently - it depends on if he is able to tolerate those foods. If he isn't ready for them they can cause either diarrhea or constipation. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation_continued\ ..htm You could try cutting out the blueberries and see if that helps. If not you can proceed with the constipation protocol http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation.htm Also for some they aren't really constipated but their bodies are just adjusting to the change in food (switching to rumen type digestion to human digestion). Often what happens is that after a week or so on the diet they will regulate themselves. If he is uncomfortable or things don't start moving you can try the constipation protocol above.
