SACRAMENTO -- Even though humans are living longer than ever before, there's

a part of us that often doesn't go the distance -- our knees. But there is a

new treatment that can extend the life of our knees.

For years, the only treatment for severe arthritis has been total knee

replacement surgery. And it works. It eliminates pain and keeps people

walking.

The problem is that the reconstructed joint wears out, and then there's not

much more you can do. But a new treatment can potentially add a decade or

two of life to an arthritic knee.
