I have a hard time with the digest style, I can't seem to really figure out how

to see all of the posts, either way I would be sifting through all the posts.

It's not really a problem just takes a while for me to read. I was going to

join the other list but it costs $40 for one person to join for a limited time,

and money is really really short right now. I really want to get advice from

professionals, however sometimes I need to go somewhere where there are none,

just because often it is the professionals getting me so stressed out telling me

that his loss doesn't matter and we should be looking at other issues. We have

looked at other issues but the fact is we are getting no where without focusing

on the hearing issues. My point is everything I read tells me that anything

over 15 dB in children can be harmful to their ability to learn and he is 30 and

they are so reluctant to even call that a loss, even for adults that is

considered a loss. So when they start telling me stuff like this I just want to

run somewhere far away from professionals. Then I start having lots of

questions and want to ask the professionals. I basically want to know how to

read the tests so I don't have to trust the audi's, because I don't trust them

since we have seen now 6 different ones and had his papers reviewed by more and

while some are helpful none have wanted to do anything about it.

joining other lists

mentioned having a lot of email in her inbox...I wanted to mention

something to you all.

I recommended that also consider joining the PDHH list because that

list does have a couple audiologists, who are also parents of deaf/Deaf kids

and several parent advocates. Listen Up has great parents who certainly

have become experts in raising deaf/hh kids. PDHH has the same parents many

of whom are on this list too. Although PDHH gets " heated " now and then,

having been a member of both lists for many years, I see the value and

appreciate the education I get from both lists, and I'm happy I have that

option available

Most lists, including this one, let the subscribers set the mail to digest

form. Listen Up does this, and so does Parent Deaf HH. Actually all the

lists I subscribe to have this feature. I get Listen Up at work in digest,

and in hotmail I get individual emails. Using this option helps you manage

your mail better. If anybody needs help with this, let us know.

Joining PDHH does not cost anything. Joining American Society for Deaf

Children does. But joining the listserv is free. I am very frugal; if it

cost me to join the list I wouldn't! In the lower portion of the page, you

will see Archived News, then a red hyperlink that says join ASDC, then

PARENTDEAF HH Archive. The word " Archive " is in blue and is hyperlinked -

click on that and the rest is self explanatory. I don't want you to stress

over it - joining it is up to you - I just wanted you to have other options

open to you.

The professionals on the list - the audiologists and advocates - are also

parents of deaf children. They go thru and fight the same battles as we do.

I would even venture that they have seen children with hearing losses

similar to your son's - with similar issues going on as well - and could

offer some good direction.

Best wishes,

mary

I just looked at the ASDC site again. To the right, there is a list of

QUICK LINKS. The first item under Quick Links is the Listserv. That

provides you another way to join if interested. I just wanted you to

know....there are two ways to join that other list, free, on the site.

Ok thanks, I wanted to ask questions but more than a few times I felt like

pulling my hair out after talking to people because as soon as I say he has

problems with his head they suddenly turn everything off regarding his hearing,

it's like an automatic off button. Anyway so that's why I like having a list

like this to come to when the professionals are stressing me out.
