Guest guest
Hi is having a bad seizure period at the moment. Tonight she has had a cluster of 4 secondarily generalised complex partials. Her emergency med for clusters is " Clobazam " , but it doesn't seem very effective. I'd be most appreciative for suggestions on something that would work better. Many thanks Jill
Guest guest
Jill, We did well with Diastat (rectal gel) for GTCs that went longer than 5 minutes. We also used Ativan (a relative of Clobazam, but less intense) for myoclonic seizure clusters. If 's partials become full blown tonic clonics, I think the Diastat would be best. Have you told your neuro that the Clobazam doesn't seem to be doing the trick? All of these drugs are benzodiazepines and are very addictive. If you are on a benzo as a regular med, it may take a higher dose of a benzo emergency med to stop a seizure. Guest guest
I am not a benzo fan (bit of an understatement there) but we have a prescrip for ativan to break seizure clusters if/when needed. Thankfully we have only used it twice at home in 3 yrs. Can really offer advise on something else to try - diastat has been mentioned before I think but have no experience with it.
