Guest guest
I would say this is a good sign so don't worry! I found the same thing with my daughter too. Sounds like you won't need the fast after all! Hope everything goes well at the hospital. Guest guest
Never fear my dear You have easily and simply and comfortably got him into a state of at least some ketosis, which should work well to reduce the fasting time in hospital. So you have done him a favour. One thing though, if he is on depakote, that could account in part for some of the ketones on the stick, as it can give a false posistive for ketones. But since he slipped into ketosis so easy, watch when they start, if they start at 4:1 ratio, watch for signs of being too ketotic, its possible (not saying it will be, just possible) that he is very sensitive to ketosis and will not need such a high ratio. Will be thinking of you tomorrow, good luck , 's mom txmomwithkids wrote: > We were suppose to have no refined sugars and cut back on the big > carbs yesterday and today (we start the diet in the hospial on the > 2nd). Guest guest
My daughter got sick the weekend before we were to start the diet. Not deathly ill, just sniffly and she didn't want to eat. I checked her ketones just to practice with the stix and was stunned that she also had ketones. Our dietician said it was normal for some kids to go into ketosis with the slightest illness. She said it was a good sign and showed that Langan would not have trouble getting into ketosis. She was right. So hopefully that's also the case with . It sounds like a positive to me. Good luck with the diet! It sounds like you are well on your way! , mom to Langan, 18 months old and keto kid since 11/03 We already have ketones, is this normal???? Newbie Help!!! We were suppose to have no refined sugars and cut back on the big carbs yesterday and today (we start the diet in the hospial on the 2nd). I checked ketones last night b/c I was just curious and he had medium to large ketones already. He did have his milk yesterday and a few other things that do have carbs, even a few grapes. Is this normal? I was totally shocked and little nervous that I did something wrong. We are suppose to do the " fast " tomorrow until we get large ketones. Anyone get to the hospital and ketones were already large? Even his breath is a little different. PLease give me some piece of mind, , mom to 22mo starting diet 2-2-04 " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort! " List is for parent to parent support only. Guest guest
It is normal. You shouldn't have any trouble getting ketones in the hospital. Be sure to look at the ketostix at the right time, sometimes 15 seconds and sometimes longer depending on the manufacturer. Guest guest
, I will just echo the others... nothing to worry about at this point. You should have a fairly easy time. Hopefully they won't let him fast too long. If he begins to get too sick, it's time to start some eggnog or whatever they will have you do. Take 's warning about the Depakote seriously, it can CAUSE problems, but sometimes the tendency is to think that the diet isn't working. Most of all, I want to wish you good luck during 's initiation. You have prepared yourself well, and you have a great keto team.
