Guest guest
Many of us on this list use the same aids for the water, the Rions. Look at the website. Only issue is when they submerge they spot out. Diane Water Proof Hearing Aids My name is Karolyn and I am new to the group. We just got a pool put in this Fall. Now that the temp is zero (Boston area) it is hard to think about summer (wishing). I've heard there are water proof hearing aids. My daughter has a severe/profound loss so not sure if the water proof aid would be powerful enough but thought I would see if anyone uses them and if they like them and where to get them??? I don't want to wait until summer to look into it so thought I would start to check into it now. Thanks, Karolyn Welch (Mom to Alison 4 / CI & HA and 6 and 8) ====================== All messages posted to this list are private and confidential. Guest guest
Karolyn, We purchased one RION aid for Hadley last spring for use at the beach and pool. What a huge difference! Even though the clarity is terrible, it gets the job done. I found that Hadley was responding well at 8-10 feet, even when we were at the edge of the ocean. She put the aid through some serious use last summer and it's still in great shape (we made sure to wash it with clean water after each use to get rid of salt or chlorine). Although Hadley wears two aids, we only purchased the one waterproof aid. I'm deliberating whether to get a second one this year. She didn't mind just wearing the one aid (we always put it in her right ear, which is her slightly better ear and on her dominant side), but it might help with localizing and responding to sounds. Also, the mike on one aid broke last year and was out for repairs for 2 weeks. We opted to have Hadley wear the waterproof aid while the aid was in the shop, and didn't notice any difference in her hearing. We purchased the aid through Hadley's dispensing audiologist. This was the only waterproof aid she suggested. Hadley has a severe loss, and she's only using about half the power on the aid, so I'd imagine that it would be suitable for . A number of families I spoke to last year mentioned the problem of the aid not working while water drained out of it. I wore the aid for a few minutes while swimming underwater and have dunked my head in a tub, and have yet to replicate that problem. I don't know if it's just older rions that have this issue or if it just happens some of the time. Also, a number of older kids took a while to adjust to the rion, but the others who began using them at a young age seemed to always do ok with them. That was part of the reason we chose to use it with Hadley when she was a baby (she was 20 months when we bought it). Good luck! Kerry (in cold, but at least not frigid, Boston too!) Guest guest
There is also this company but I can't find out how to get them in the USA. I had an email that told me what company they dealt through and when I upgrade AOL it was lost. Here is the site. They look cool! http://www.eurion.ch/En/Default.htm Elaine
