Guest guest
Replying from the keto site Glenna, hope this comes out ok... Well I basically echo everything that Sandi said in her reply. My first thought is that if you saw a definite improvement upping the ratio, then maybe you do have to go a bit higher still? A bit like the meds - max it out before going back down again? I would run that past your dietican and see what she has to say about it. How is her weight going? 's glucose used to rise before a meal, but he wasn't losing weight like I expected him to be if the extra glucose was from using muscle mass. He wasn't gaining either - like I would expect him to had the higher glucose been from too much stored glycogen. So his weight was no use to me whatsoever, but Macie's might give you some clues. Endocrine testing if the higher ratio doesn't help, might give you a clue to something else going on, like stress repsonses, metabolic derangement (just in case she is going catabolic)hormones etc. Adrenaline, glucagon, insulin, and maybe cortisol? Perhaps a ree dx teat to see what her cal level is approximated at according to that, and did she ever have a dexa scan showing fat/muscle ditribution? >We've been at 3.5:1 for 11 days now. We've seen a big improvement, even some days we think have been seizure free. Her BHB readings have been 3.3 to 4.4. >Glucose remains high, 80-88 so far. This is very puzzling to me (we are doing both at the same time, as we have two testers....I read that you do this, too). These glucose levels are higher than anytime we were checking before, at a much lower ratio (2.8 and 2.6). > Maybe we need to bump her on up to 4.0 to see if we can get those ketones higher????? We are supposed to call the dietitian on Thursday and check in. Not sure what I want to tell her yet as far as what we want to try. I'm sure she may have some suggestions. Guest guest
Too many calories can ingrease the glucose levels just like too little calories Raising the ratio--usually is a fat increase (3.5:1 to a 4.0:1 Or the ratio can be changed with more protein or carbs--which can all contribute to the increasing the glucose issues-- Sandi
