Here is what I would do......take a before and after picture of yourself and

tell him that his talking about this other persons loss made you think and

you wanted to show him your progress. I have only lost 23 lbs. but local

folk don't really notice, but I saw a guy sometime back from college and he

noticed right off the bat and said I was looking great! And he could really

tell I had lost weight.

I had someone tell me the reason they never said anything was because they

The people that matter most in my life and ME do acknowldge my success, but

this guy is a really good friend of mine and we are far more than co-workers

and he knows that I am on WW, he even comments on my " Rabbit food " that I eat

daily. And for him to just go on forever about her loss just irritated me. I

did say something to him about it today and he appologized profusley, he

explained that he hears everyone else in the office commenting to me and he

knows my BF very wll also who constantly praises me and he just thought it

would be redundant. He also told me that he bragged to the other girl about my

weight loss too when he saw her, so I am happy now.

Also, just had my WI and I lost .6, not a huge loss but way more than I

expected and after 3 weeks of gaining .4 each week, it was a good change in the

right direction.

, maybe it makes you mad because you view gastric bypass as not

being the struggle you're going through.. yet since it is fast like you

mentioned it gets the most attention?

Currently to date, I have lost 70 pounds on WW and think I look

dramatically

different. A year ago I changed jobs so the new the people that I have

met

since then I don't expect them to notice, although they notice the past

30

pounds. Well this one guy that I worked with at my former office and he

chagned firms right before I did (we work together again) he ran into

this one

girl that worked in our former office the other day and she had gastric

bypass

surgery and has lost a little over 100 pounds, which is outstanding for

her.

Well anywho, he runs into her and comes back and just goes on for hours

about

how good she looks and how much weigh she has lost, I have lost only 35

pounds

less than she did, you would think he would comment on that--but no!!!!

Is it

because mine has been so gradual or because he sees me everyday and does

not

notice--although my boyfriend sees me everyday too and he notices. I

don't

know why this made me so mad, but I was just fuming yesterday when he

left my

loss

I know WLS is not easy, and it is a struggle but the results are faster than my

journey. Truthfully, I feel sorry for those who have it..I have one friend

that had it done and she said to me just the other day " I miss eating, I once

loved food and now it is something that just keeps me alive " That broke my

heart!! Her and her husband met (both 2nd marriages) late in life and the were

both thin and healthy and found food to be the common ground of enjoyment (Her

ex husband always told her she was fat at 119 pounds so she never enjoyed

eating back then) well, they both gained weight together and she had the

surgery and he didn't, he still enjoys his food and she can't, they have lost

the comon ground of enjoyment, how sad.

I am in no means judging anyone that has had WLS surgery just for me, it's not

even an option because I love food!!!

My aunt lost over 200 pounds on a year-long " protein shake " diet given to

her by her doctor. She has since said that losing all that weight has

been the worst thing that has ever happened to her; eating, she says, was

the only thing in life that she enjoyed and now she can't do it anymore.

My experience:

I agree with what wrote. 2 years ago I went from 205 lbs. to

about 170 lbs. I got all kinds of comments from my friends and family. I

got every thing from very nice compliments to ridiculous and unrealistic

over inflations. Everyone meant well, and wanted to be encouraging to me.

Even on of my chubby friends would say I looked nice, and I know we

shared our weight struggles a lot and it is hard to see another person

get some weight off, but she was very gracious about it and very sweet.

Well, by 2003 I was back up to 198!! No one said anything (I'm sure they

noticed, they're not blind). Now, after starting WW I'm losing again and

weigh 177. I have had very few comments and I believe it is because I've

just previously lost the weight. It just didn't really register too much

for them, it's just like, " Oh, she's thinner again, that's nice " but no

verbal comment is necessary.

Personally, I HATED all the comments the first time, they got so

ridiculous, " You're going to blow away " " Don't lose anymore " " You're too

thin " (yea, at a size 16!! I hardly think so). I am really enjoying it

more this time, because all my comments are from this group and gals at

WW Meeting. That's plenty for me.

But for those of you who are only " shadows of your former selves " , I have

been meaning to tell you for a long time that you look fabulous!!! Your

hard work in taking care of yourselves is inspiring. Your success gives

me what I need to press toward my own goals. Do something wonderful for

yourselves, you really deserve it. You have accomplished what many others

only gave up on.

Have you ever told an anonymous person how much you have lost, and

relished their disbelief? I just put a " before " picture of me at my

heaviest in my WW packet and showed it at the last meeting. Their jaws

dropped. But I would never want to take it out in public, just my WW pals

(~_~). This is the best place, thanks to you all. ~~ Lou

Unfortunately I guess one of my real pleasures in life was enjoying good

(tasting) food. I have to curtail that pleasure to remain healthy but I'm

not real happy about it.

Thanks Lou,

I hadn't thought of it that way--if you lost weight, put it on again soon

after, then lost it again, that people might not have registered at all that

you DID put it back on. So, that puts it in another perspective for me and

this time around (the second shot at lifetime) I'll try to remember that and

not get so irritated. I did love the comments, but as you said--we have them

from our families and those closest to us and then forget the rest!!

This group is supportive too, although I know I don't post to everyone's

individual losses with the little free time I have from the kids. SOOOOOOOO,

HERE'S TO ALL OF US THAT HAVE LOST--WAY TO GO and thanks for the support.

I've had a lot of experience with folks who don't say anything about the weight

you've lost because they're afraid you'll get offended ( " you " as in the general

" you " ). I actually have had a person come up to me and say, " Now don't get

offended, but I've noticed you've been losing some weight. I think that's

great! " Why on earth anyone would get offended is beyond me. Really. I mean,

what are we going to say, " Are you insinuating that I was FAT??? That I NEEDED

TO LOSE WEIGHT?? " Hee hee... Go figure. People are a complicated breed, that's

for sure.

Sometimes people aren't sure what to say. You say you lost, regained, and

are now losing again. When I know people who are going through that I tend

to not say anything at all. It's just so hard to know why they are going up

and down...are they sick? Is something wrong? Medication? I always feel if

they share that they've lost or are on a diet, then I'll say something.

I just want to clarify something, I am not the one that has lost, gained and

lost again. This is my frist go at weight loss and I can see everyone's point

where if someone is constantly going up and down with weight to not say

anything, but I am only going down and I was the original complainer about this.

I think that we are all just trying to respond to your post and share our

experiences too in that regard. Whether we have gained, lost and gained

again, we are all in this weight loss process together and this board is to

share things like that and support each other. All of us, or I guess I could

say many of us, have had the experience to lose and not have anyone notice

or to have people be food police when we mention weight loss, etc. and we

are all trying to share that with you.

I shared mine because I had similar experiences when I lost the first time

and SOME people in my group never said a word--now I'm getting used to it.

I sure hope that you go down this time and never go back up, that would be

great to not go through that again.

From: " on "

When I read the lifetimers board at the WW site, there is a signature line of

one of the posters that sticks in my head...it goes something like this...

** " I can eat all I want to eat OR I can be the size I want to be, BUT I can't

do both. " **

---------------------------------

That's a good one, ; it's very much like mine:

" I can have/do *any*thing I want; I just can't have/do *every*thing I want. "

It works for food and also for time: we all have 24 hours a day; if I spend 1

hour reading, I can't spend that hour watching TV (or walking the dogs, or

talking with my husband, or doing a weight workout, or whatever). (But I can

walk on the treadmill while watching TV!!! <grin>)

You can *still* enjoy good-tasting food. And you have a couple of ways to

do it too.

1. If the food is high in undesirable characteristics (high-fat,

high-sugar, or just plain Bad For You), you can simply choose to enjoy a

smaller portion.

OR

2. You can discover new foods that taste great AND are low in undesirable

characteristics, and enjoy a larger portion.

Enjoyment of food does not depend on quantity. The fifth or sixth or

eighteenth bite doesn't taste any better than the first.

I tend to notice it's the real overweight people who don't say anything or

the real thin people. I get the most comments from the average folks. I

think

the overweight people might have a jealously thing going on and with the

thin people, maybe weight's just not their focus. Then, there was a couple

of weeks ago where a friend of mine said " Joe (Joe's really thin) asked

me " what's

going on with Mitch? Is he sick " ? So, maybe some people are just being

polite and

don't want to delve into your personal life.

So, maybe some people are just being

polite and

don't want to delve into your personal life.

to you. Now, its' obvious, he just made an honest mistake. Glad you said

something and got

a posititive response. Congrats on your WI as well.
