Guest guest
Hi there - You have to check their spice supplier. Many spices are packaged with gluten to prevent clumping (learned this on GFCF). If gluten is below a certain percentage it does not need to be listed on the package. I've checked with the spice supplier at our local fancy buthcer (for their lovely sausage in our GFCF days... we can't eat them now as he can't handle whole rosemary, peppercorns, etc... so they make them for us with just ground meat and salt). Safeway shouldn't have a problem with giving you the phone number. Sorry, we don't have Safeways in Hamilton, Ontario... this is Loblaw land (aka Fortino's). Guest guest
> Hi > > This is a question for the Canadians who have a Canada Safeway in their area. They have oven roasted chicken breast/turkey breast in their deli. I've enquired about the ingredients and they've ensured that because it's 'oven roasted' there isn't anything else that goes into it....it's unprocessed....except some papricka on the skin as well as some salt...therefore wouldn't this be SCD legal?? That's what Yitz' Deli in Toronto told me and later I found out there were other ingredients in their oven roasted turkey that made me ill. Ask them to show you the whole unscliced piece and see what it says on the package. Carol F. Toronto, Celiac, SCD 4 yrs.
Guest guest
I'm leary about the pre-cooked meats at grocery stores. Our son had been doing very well for days, and then went to our neighbor's and had some of the Roasted whole chicken from Sobey's, thinking it would be OK. He came home and blew the roof off the house, with his first rage in a long time, couldn't focus, was glassy-eyed, etc. The only other things he had at their house were raw carrots and water. I phoned Sobey's and they swore the only seasoning they put on the raw chicken was salt. I then went down to their deli counter, and asked to see the box the raw, whole chickens come in (I do this at restaurants because often raw restaurant steaks and chickens arrive at the restaurant already soaked in something like soy or seasonings). There were no ingredients listed on Sobey's chicken box, so we never did get the mystery unraveled, but I will not give him any precooked meat from the grocery store, because of how he behaved afterward, that day.
