Re: Veggies and Fruits not cooked?

I'm not sure about the yeast part of your question (I'm assuming that cooked

veggies are better for that by your post so I'll come from that angle), but I

can tell you that it took about 6 months on SCD before my son (Celiac) was

digesting all his veggies (cooked or raw) properly. He wouldn't eat them either

at first (except for raw carrot sticks), but then a couple of months in, he

began to like cooked broccoli and cauliflower. Cooked stuff was properly

digested first... raw stuff came more towards the end of the 6 month period.

(Seeds and skins weren't added in until even later.)

I used to grind them up in our blender and make meat sauce out of them (mixing

them with ground beef)... like a spaghetti sauce or a taco meat (same recipe as

spaghetti but spicier). That was the only way we could get any veggies into him

(esp. cooked).

We worked our way 'up' (?) :) to a gf diet (celiac disease) and I've found he's

not eating any veggies again (among some other smaller but still significant

issues) and so we're working our way back into SCD again. (Which is much easier

this time because we've always kept a large part of it in our diet and last time

I didn't know about groups like this and was all on my own with it.)

So I'm sure you and I will be able to muddle through this together, along with

the help of all the experience here, to come out successfully in a couple of

months.

There was another idea here just a couple of days ago that was *fabulous*, I'm

sorry not to give credit but I don't know everyone yet... it was to grind

veggies up (I'll be cooking them first so they'll come out smoother - like the

apple sauce recipe) and put them in a fruit smoothie (which, of course, can also

be popsicles... I used to crush up vitamins and hide them in their smoothie

pops).

Last thought, you might want to see if he's avoiding any definite food

families... mine won't touch a nightshade no matter what I do to it... so I

avoid them because I think he might have the aversion based on an intolerance.

(And who can be bothered with all that arguing at mealtimes with all the other

great veggies - and arguments - out there? :) )

Kind regards,

Hi all. We're at the beginning of the diet here and although we did

it last year it didn't go well. We've got the meat, juices and nut

butters down so far but my son doesn't like his veggies and fruits

cooked. He wants them raw or frozen and not warmed up at all. The

only way I can cook them is into things like the squash, hiding them

really. Is this going to increase yeast? Is this going to make the

diet ineffective or just less effective? I'm wondering how much to

fight this battle of raw/frozen vs cooked.

Thanks,
