You're welocme, hun. I hope you do decide to get one. I only know about one breed and that's the breed I have. She's a Pekinese and from what Ive read and from what I know just from her, they are VERY low maintenance. Dont get me wrong. Every breed requires some sort of training in the beginning, but a small dog is definately the way to go. Please let us know what you decide. Im so excited for you!!

do you have someone that come in and take care of the little one while you are gone...I don't like to put mine in a kennel....and for flights 9 times out of 10 you have to buy them a ticket I checked with Southwest to take mine and I could put him underneath but I refuse to because that would be like riding on the wing because the luggage compartment is not presserized so I have my son come in and take care of them and they have a doggie door to go in and out anytime they need.....and believe me a doggie door is worth every penny you give for it....I talk to mine a lot and yes they do understand me because when I tell them I have to go to work so I can but them treats they start doing thier tricks for treats....andwhen I tell them they can't go they set back (not very happy) and watch me go and I always tell them I will be back and they always lay by the door because after night when I come home I can see them through the glass laying by the door....Huggs

P. S. my dogs are my childrenrendurall@... wrote:

Just a comment on rescues. If you have your heart set on a particular small breed, you can check online for rescues in your area. All breeds big and small have rescues. Not to mention shelters. My current 2 dogs, greyhounds, and my 2 prior dogs Airedales, were all rescues and wonderful dogs. If you do decide to buy a puppy or a dog, please get a referral from the local breed association or AKC to a breeder and ignore the pet shops.I have visited many breeders before I got involved in rescue and they were always happy to talk about the pros and cons of their breed and show you puppies or full grown dogs. I am sure you will find exactly what you want whatever route you take.

Also, puppyfind.com has some wonderful puppies on there. They are all registered and certified. Have had their vet visits and shops. Couldnt hurt to check it out, at the very least. catlin struelens wrote:

Hope nobody takes offense, but I looked at the puppyfind site and there is nothing that tells me they do not deal with puppy mills. Puppy mills have AKC pups but they just breed indiscriminately in the most horrific of surroundings. A few clicks of the mouse will tell you the horrors of puppy mills. The only way to avoid them is to deal with a breeder that you can know by name and visit where your puppy came from and usually see the mom with the litter or a rescue that will not hide flaws or problems..I would be more than happy to do research on a breeder or rescue in your local area for anyone on this site who finds the prospect daunting.Catlin

If you click on a puppy, you will see the breeders info. They usually want you to join (which is only 5$ for 3 months) in order to view more detail or to contact them. You can always ask them how they are bred. It seems they are taken very good care of. catlin struelens wrote:
