Guest guest
Laurel, My cycles have been anywhere from 35 to 56 days. I did BBT charting for six months. My temps were all over the place! After 6 months of ttc without success, I took Clomid w/Progesterone. All of a sudden my cycles became 32-33 days. I took Clomid for two months and then stopped taking it when I found out about my MA. That next month after I stopped the Clomid my cycle was again on-target (ovulation was same as the Clomid cycles) and I got pregnant that month with IUI. Since then, I've miscarried, but I'm hoping that my cycles won't be so erratic this time around. By the way, Clomid is great if your cycles are irregular, but it can actually decrease your possibility of getting pregnant because it has the side effect of thinning the endometrial lining. Your doctor should monitor your lining to see if Clomid is having this negative effect. My doctor didn't monitor this, but I suspect that my lining was too thin because even when I wasn't on Clomid I had a lining of only 6.5. The other negative effect of Clomid is hyperstimulation of the ovaries. Also, with regards to PCOS, I was originally diagnosed with PCOS but have since then had a second opinion saying I don't have it. I had the glucose tolerance test done and the results were very good. I have some small cysts, but the ovaries didn't look that bad in the last u/s. Lastly, my RE said that even though my cycles were very long that she thinks I was probably still ovulating. She also does not recommend BBT (says it is unreliable) but insists on the ovulation predictor kits as the only reliable way to predict ovulation. I am so glad that I am not waking up every morning and sticking a thermometer in my mouth anymore! The OPKs are so expensive! But, they are definitely worth it. One last thing, have you had your thyroid tested? Low temps can be a symptom that something is wrong there. Thyroid problems can also affect your fertility. I don't know what the tests are that you should have but maybe someone else here does. Best wishes in your efforts to conceive! First, I want to thank you all for giving me the knowledge and courage to push for a firm diagnosis. Up until a few weeks ago, all I knew is that I had a " heart-shaped " uterus. I didn't have much luck researching on the internet, until I stumbled onto this board. This group is amazing - I'm so grateful I found you. Thanks to the info I found here I decided to go see an RE earlier this month. He looked at copies of a trans vag I had last year and said he was 99% sure I am SU. Since I've had two miscarriages, he agreed to go ahead with a lap/hyst. Actually he said he thinks he can do the resection without the lap. We can't schedule until I get AF (my cycles have always been very irregular). I suspect that I might need prog supplements because I've been charting and I don't get any elevated temps the second half of my cycle. (I hope that makes sense.) Anyway, my questions are: Has anyone had a resection without the lap? Is it common for the RE to try the hyst without the lap, then do a lap if they're unsure of BU/SU? Does anyone have irregular cycles (possibly not ovulating and lasting anywhere from 34-42 days) without PCOS? Is there a test I could request to find out why my temps aren't showing ovulation? Thanks for the help! Guest guest
Hi Laurel, And welcome! I am just as grateful as you for this board. I was SU and had 2 surgeries to resect my septum which was found after a m/c. The lap was used in the first surgery to confirm the SU, but the 2nd dr did not use the lap and trusted the 1st drs report that the outside contour of the uterus was without indentation. I think that the common practice is to use both lap/hys, but sometimes they do the resection w/ hys only. I *think* that sometimes they can tell that a septum is a septum (not bu) just by the texture of the tissue. It wouldn't hurt to ask your dr to reassure you why a lap is not necessary and how s/he will be able to tell SU from BU w/out it. Let us know if you find out, ok? I'm not sure what other tests they could do to confirm ovulation, maybe u/s around O day to confirm the # and release of follies? I hope someone else w/ more experience will help you here. Sorry about your losses. The surgery should be a happy solution for you. Keep us posted, Sara SU resected x2
Guest guest
Sara and Laurel, I just had a hyst without a lap. My RE could tell from the ultrasound that I had a septum. There was no dip in the fundus but there was an obvious separation of the two halves. It was not a complete septum but it was about 1/3 of the way down. As my RE said it was 'average' sized. - Liz Liz > >Reply-To: MullerianAnomalies >To: MullerianAnomalies >Subject: Re: New member - SU (m/c mentioned) >Date: Tue, 01 Jun 2004 20:57:28 -0000 > _________________________________________________________________ MSN 9 Dial-up Internet Access fights spam and pop-ups – now 3 months FREE! http://join.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200361ave/direct/01/
