Thanks, Kris, really appreciate the information. How is your hands and

feet now?

My brother has as of today, stopped Xeloda. His feet/hands are like pieces

of raw meat--swollen and red. He has one more radiation treatment to

peri-aortic lymph node site and was mapped today for another 5 treatments in

another

direction. Then they will do PET and go from there. I have told hiim about

TPN before, but he feels he doesn't need that yet--thinks losing 10-12 lbs is

" good. "

Cheers,

Betty

Betty- My hands and feet are peeling and a bit dry but not painful at

all. The pain went away quite quickly with the reduction in my dose

of Xeloda. This was my second dose reduction. I started off with

Xeloda 4500 mg daily for 5 days every 2 wks, beginning the day I

received my oxaliplatin (you need either 5-FU or Xeloda for a couple

of days to work along with the oxaliplatin for oxaliplatin to be

effective).

I started getting blisters on my feet 1 mth later. My oncologist cut

me down to 4000 mg a day which resolved things immediately, and

although my hands were a bit sore the last day of medication it was

tolerable until the last few times when he cut my dose to 3500

mg/day .

If your brother is heavy weight loss is more tolerable, and eating

nutritious food is better than TPN. The nutritionist at my

oncology center keeps lobbying to make certain I am taking in enough

protien however. Your body needs that for normal tissues to repair

damage, and keeping up a good muscle mass is important also.

Hopefully your brother will feel better quickly with the break from

Xeloda and the soon to be finished radiation therapy.

Best wishes,

Kris
