Guest guest
Norma (you are the third terrific Norma I have met--one is my mom, lol) Thanks so much. I just did a taebo tape and think maybe this'll help get the frustrations out. I just have so much going on right now, a 10 year marriage on the rocks, a tempermental 6 yr old, and law school plus the usual worries about money, house, etc etc. I know the only person I am hurting is myself, and need to work on that. I have improved from my old behavior, and I know changes take time and some slippage is normal, but I want it all now!!! Thanks for putting up with my fussing. . . Guest guest
most of us Amy have that problem i know i do i have fallen off a few times because something bad happened and i said fine i am going to go eat chocolate unfortunately i have also learned that one of these cheats can turn into a binge and undo all the hard work i have done. its a constant struggle with myself to not do this.. the other day beth posted an article on cheating did you see that?? what that article said is instead of trying to run away from bad feelings with food.. you have to let yourself feel them and deal with them let yourself feel angry or sad or whatever and then deal with the problem dont use food to run away catherine

Guest guest
Dear Amy Of course we have those feelings and that is why many of us are over weight but it is time to realize that and do something about it. Make changes and the next time you are mad, clean up the kitchen and bang around the pots and pans or put cocoa on the crotch of your DH's undies and hang them out on the line for all the neighbours to see. Dr. Phil on Oprah just spent the last 3 weeks talking about this problem and if we are over weight it is still our choice so try to make better choices. You do not abuse your children so let's al stop abusing our selves. Oh a cheat now and then is okay . And post to us wen you get mad, talk about it, we have all been there and are there , we understand. You can do this Amy!! Norma

Guest guest
Amy, most of us have had your experience. I tend to reach for food when I am tired - trying to find energy from whatever source I can. And since DH snores like a BANSHEE - I tend to be tired a lot!! I finally had to shove him with all my might at 2:30 this a m or I would never have gotten *any* sleep at all. But now I'm finding that this Island challenge has given me something to really focus on -- tired or not, I will not budge from this beautiful state. It is very good that you recognize what triggers your eating - this is a first step to control. When you feel this way, post to us - we'll help all we can. Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2001 7:57 AMTo: AtkinsChallengers Subject: help please/OT???Hi everyone, I have a question that I don't know if any of you can help me with. Does anyone else have a problem with what I call emotional overeating/binging? Since I have been living this new low carb life (and before, actually) I've noticed that when I get angry I just want to eat. . . and eat . . . and eat. . . . . The reason that I'm so overweight right now is mostly because I used to destress at the end of the day bysitting down on the couch after everyone was asleep with a bag of chips. . . poptarts. . . .well, you know the story. I found myself on that path a lot this week. The DH has been pretty irritating, and I've caught myself thinking "I'll show him, I'm gonna eat whatever" I realize of course that the only person I'm showing anything to is myself. Just curious as to whether anyone else has been thru this, and if so, any advice or tips on how to overcome it? Guest guest
Dear Amy, I have been there and done that....my 11+ yr marriage ended in divorce in December....you can check the archives for a clue as to my fragile state of mind then! Fortunately, mine was unlike most other divorces, and my previous one, we are still friends. I have done a lot of serious analysis of my behavior and eating patterns int he past few months and I eat bad things when I'm feeling sorry for " poor little old me " or when I'm angry. But I've gotten it under control for the most part and doing better. The island is sure helping too! Just keep you head up, this to shall pass. Let us know if we can help. Guest guest
Christabelle, I feel for ya, sweetie....my DH snores too...I mean his head has just hit the pillow and there he goes. I try to fall asleep before him, but don't always succeed. It has gotten so I smack the mattress all night long, even when he ISN"T snoring and we are both suffering from lack of sleep. I guess that is what spare rooms are for! Unfortunately I had to throw the mattress out there and can't get a new one for a few months.... Guest guest
My husband snores too. He can make the birds fly the wrong direction! He also stops breathing sometimes - and I wake up to him trying to catch his breath. I just have to get to sleep first - that's all there is to it. But Idon't like going to bed alone..... evidently his ex always just booted him out of bed - said they hardly ever slept together (which was okay by me!). But I just tell him to tun over - he doesn't snore as bad on his side....

Guest guest
Boy, I hate to set a precident for sleeping in another room. Chris I know what you mean....my DH said we would get a divorce before we got seperate rooms...now I have tried ear plugs, asfixiating myself with pillows over my head....so if you hear of a solution, other than murder, please pass it on!!!!!!!!!! I wish he would go to the dr as I hear there is a really simple little procedure they can do on some people but he won't go. For now, I have bought a floor stand fan that is pretty noisy and sometimes I can lull myself to sleep with it. But when it is chilly and I can't turn it on the noise is deafening! Guest guest
I don't let my DH sleep on his side facing the window, or he sucks in the curtains ( just kidding) I try to get him to turn on his side, but sometimes I think it would be easier to wake the dead. If your DH is having periods of breathlessness, he may be suffering from sleep apnea. Maybe he should talk to his *Doctor* (sorry, Norma!) Chris Re: help please/OT??? My husband snores too. Guest guest
My fingers, silly! Only til he stops snoring. . . .of course, he usually gasps for air after that, but it does work aside from the risk of suffocation, that is. Amy (just joking, of course)
Guest guest
On a not so funny note for all of us who are being sleep deprived due to snores from our family members, what say we start some tapes and compare decibel levels. My dh starts out softly but when it reaches its peak he wakes up for a second and then goes back to sleep. As for me, once up I can't fall back asleep. Gee, maybe we could make one full night of listening to the cacophony of all the noisy sleepers, our very own wild animals,an added incentive for staying true to plan and on the island. Guest guest
Geesh I can not believe how human beings sleep together through hot flashes , beer breath, hot summer sweaty nights, beer farts. We both love our separate beds and rooms. You all deserve a medal for putting up with that torture and we do cuddle and fornicate but it is when we want to and not because something is poking me in the back.
