I have had no side effects from either drug. I was very tired the first few weeks but that lessened after that. My dose has been increases from 50mg x 2 to 100 x 2. I notice the Vagel afibbers have a hard time with this drug. Do you know the type you are yet? Can you tell us a little more about yourself? Are you very athletic, etc.? Guest guest
Hi Mandy, I was diagnosed with afib in November and the doctor said that he is going to put me on Lopressor again. When I was taking it before it was causing great weakness in my body, unable to get out of car or out of a chair. I just joined the list yesterday and am just seeking information. Some of the messages on the website say that after a while the side effects lessen and it helps those who take it (lopressor/topril). Thanks for your e-mail...anything you can think of to say will be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi, thanks for writing. Your questions: I notice the Vagel afibbers have a hard time with this drug. Do you know the type you are yet? Can you tell us a little more about yourself? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------ I don't what kind of afibber I am...is there a way I can know this? I am 68 and before this episode of afib came along I would walk 2 hours every morning. I have had surgeries on both knees, one being major, so I was limited by pain in my walking. I would walk ten minutes then rest for ten until I completed the two hours. Nowadays, I am so low on energy and there is so much pain in my legs that walking for exercise is not something I can do. I am barely functioning in my daily life as it is...I can go to the market and that's about it. This is my 5th goaround with afib. Previously, I didn't think it was a really big thing, I would have it and it would convert for a couple of years or so and then come and go again. I had forgotten all about it, and then, last November I was having great trouble breathing and went to the ER and here I am. After 7 1/2 days in the hospital they wheeled me out to my car and I got in the back seat. My brother was driving and my mother was in front next to him. When we got to my place I tried to get out of the car and was unable to do it, having no strenth at all. They got me to a comfortable chair and about one hour later I was unable--strengthwise--to get up out of the chair. Every morning at 9:00 I would take coumadin, lopressor, lisinopril and digoxin with lasix and potassium. In the afternoons the pain in my arthritic knees was unbearable (literally) and I was wobbly and very dizzy and had to grope around holding on to the walls etc. After a few days I stopped all medication and have been very reluctant to take coumadin and lopressor since then. Mr dr. is suggesting that I take lopressor once again... This is a health issue and you should take it seriously. Afib can be scary but its something we can and do all learn to deal and live with. You said you stopped all drugs immediately? A blood thinner is very important for us afibbers because of the risk of stroke. I see by your letter your mother and brother are there to assist you when you have a problem. It's nice when family is there to assist when needed. We all have different ways of dealing with Afib, some by medication (rate or rhythm), vitamins, Ablation, trying to control triggers. Maybe the combination of drugs you were on tired you out as a unit? Discuss this with your Doctor and see if there is a better way to introduce them to you? I mentioned Vagel afib and the type of person who usually has it is a very toned person. Someone who is very fit and always exercising but there are probable others who have it that don't necessarily fit that description. Try and relax and its important to be taking a blood thinner so discuss any medication you stop immediately with your doctor first, OK. a in Massachusetts 49 NSR Toprol XL 100 x 2 Adult Aspirin

You couldn't have said it better. ********************** Thank you Debbie. I was very concerned when she said she stopped all medications herself. I don't have the knowledge most on this site do as IM just learning about afib myself just being diagnosed 2 plus years ago but I do know the blood thinner is the most important for all of us. I also know just stopping the drugs can cause a problem but I leave all the technical stuff the seasoned posters. I have leaned much and I like to sit back and read each and every post even though I seldom participate. a in Massachusetts 49 NSR Toprol XL 100 x 2 Adult Aspirin
