It feels like an electrical charge going from the hip to the end of the toes. I think it starts when I am starting to change positions or stretch, but I'm usually in a sound sleep and it wakes me up. It started in my right leg last April and by June it was in the left leg too. The first time it happened and woke me up, it scared the hell out of me! The only thing I could relate it too was a scene from the movie The Exorcist. It woke my husband up too, he asked what's the matter? I said I don't know my leg decided to go dancing by itself at 3 a.m., it doesn't want to walk all day, but when I go to sleep, it decides to dance and wake me up. Now I have gotten used to it, it still wakes me up, but I just throw my other leg on top of it and it usually stops it. My question is: Is this a nerve? Or is this a muscle? Iknow it's not the painful muscle spasm charlie horse cramp thing, cause I get that when I wake up in the morning, sometimes in both calves at the same time. Then I lay there, stretch my leg out as straight as I can, bend my foot upwards towards my knee, and it passes more quickly. But this other thing I think they call it clonus. Jeannie/ N.J.
