Get Moving Today!

September 28 is National Women's Health and Fitness Day Can't get motivated to start an exercise routine? Remember, fitness doesn't have to be all gyms and jogging. Getting in shape can be easy and fun. Why not resolve to try one of the following activities — you may discover that it's simpler than you think. Take a co-worker for a "talk walk." Instead of a coffee break at your desk, grab your favorite co-worker and take a walk outside. The exercise will raise your energy level, and the lively conversation will feed your appetite, making the time fly by. Go shopping. Sounds easy, right? The catch is you have to leave your car at home (if the shop is local) or park in the far corner of the mall parking lot. If you are in a mall, try strolling through the whole building, even the sections you don't normally visit. All that walking adds up, and you'll get in plenty of window-shopping time to boot. Check out a video arcade. Whoever said that video games promote sedentary lifestyles never played "Dance, Dance Revolution." This popular game requires the player to follow dance patterns in a variety of levels from easy to difficult. All you need are a couple of quarters, a comfortable pair of tennis shoes, and a healthy dose of humility. Play tag with your kids. When was the last time you participated in a simple game of tag? Rediscover your inner child while spending quality time with your kids. They'll get a kick out of having you play, and it's a great way to reconnect with your little ones. Take a loved one to a salsa club or social dance. Couple's activities are always more fun. Find a dance club that offers swing, salsa, or line country dancing — you'll be having fun in no time. And for those who have two left feet, most social dance clubs offer early evening lessons to help get you up to speed.
