Given how high many fruits are in potassium, do you stick to a short list? Can you give me an example of an average day's fruit intake. I have serious problems with potassium levels and watch my potassium much closer than I do sodium or protein or even phosphates. Thanks so much,
Guest guest
Oops...I meant to say " My renal dietician has me eating 7 servings of fruit a day to keep my PROTEIN down..... " That's what I get for answering e.mail first thing in the morning after a 4 day vacation. ) I do have a very short list of fruits that are o.k. due to potassium it consists of: applesauce, blueberries, boysenberries, cranberries, crabapples, passionfruit, kumquats, tamarind, canned pears and juices--cranberry, lime, grape, cranapple, nectars--peach, pear, papaya. All those have less than 100mg potassium per serving. Since my potassium has been within normal ranges for the past 8 months I've been able to eat more freely from the 101-200mg potassium per serving fruits list which consists of: apple, blackberries, cherries, figs, grapes, grapefruit, gooseberries, canned peaches, small fresh peach, pineapple, plums, raisins, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, tangerine, and watermelon. Although many of these higher potassium fruits make me feel lousy when I eat them. I can't tolerate anything citrus, for example, with the exception of lemonade. Hope that helps and I'm sorry for the confusion. Amy G. Guest guest
Hi Amy, Thanks for the comprehensive listing - and the clarification! As much as and I love them, I HATE to think of the day coming when I'll have a reason to buy fresh blueberries (we always avoid them cause they're so darn pricy)! Just planted some raspberry and blackberry canes in our garden -with a bit of luck they'll bear fruit next year.
