Guest guest Posted January 23, 2004 Report Share Posted January 23, 2004 I never could understand why UMN disease by itself doesn't affect breathing. (I don't know the neuro-anatomy to know.) But it is clear that destruction of the LMNs going to the diaphram slowly stops the lungs from functioning in ALS.
